I'm pretty sure this classic piece of knitwear is found on both sides of the pond! They are not particularly fashionable for chaps - the M&S cardie is the sort of gift you might give an elderly uncle along with a pipe and slippers. Cardies for the chapess can vary in trendiness but the traditional knitted, buttons-down-the-front-possibly-argyle-patterned affair is unlikely to be seen on the catwalks this season...

Not true that it isn't a word used in the US - I caught a bit of that awful Drew Barrymore film yesterday - Never Been kissed - and there was a bit in it where the girlies went shopping and bought - guess what? - cardigans!! (so named after the Earl of Cardigan who apparently had thin blood and got quite chilly out on the battlefield)

(luv your name. spectacular. waves!)
Please cease posting in caps.
I was tickled for hours when I discovered the area called Cardigan... specially the Bay. (I was young and giggly.)
Scared: a good ol' fashioned ghost story. Nothing beats em! (Fancy a Guide Collection?)

Just thought of another thing that scares the doodah outta me... Jeremy Clarkson AND Anne Robinson ever crossing my path. I live in fear of the day when I am working on a conference and the 'guest speaker' is one of those two.
They are both on my 'minibus' that accidentally goes over the side of some remote Himalayan mountainside. In fact they are both in the front seats. Other passengers would have to include Henry Kelly, Tim Vine, Pete Waterman, Jodie Foster, Nicholas Cage...
If you would like to nominate someone to join the bus please put out your hand and signal clearly to the driver that you would like the bus to stop. Seatbelts are not provided...

Henry Kelly!!!
Now I really am scared... I will have nightmares of the bus going over the cliff to the sound of "something soothing relaxing from the great Mr Mossart himself..."

What scares the Hell out of me is the fact that this thread is still knocking around back here.
At last, I've given something back to a community. Something that isn't contagious. Or liable to detonate with astounding force.
