I have a habit of haveing at least two or more books on the go at the same time,so I have just started "1421" The year China Discoverd the World.
It seams they had ships capable of carrying anything from 1,000 to 1,500 crew. Let you know when I have read more.

Reading through the appendices of LOTR
Finishing off Enigma by Robert Harris and having seen it mentioned here so often just embarked on my 2nd reading of the Life of Pi to see if it makes any more sense.
I'm envious of anyone who has not yet read that one.

Just finished Terry Pratchett's "Soul Music".
Previously finished Paul Auster's New York trilogy ("City of Glass", "Ghosts", "The Locked Room").
Just now I'm into "Reims, l'amère ville (ma somme)" by Patrick Mouze. Free Guinness for anyone who's heard of it (make it a dinner at Boyer's if you've actually read it ).

Yep, Life of Pi is fan-fuggle-tastic.
I'm just reading "Beloved" by Toni Morrison. It took some getting into to begin with but now I have real trouble putting it down. It's got that whole "magical realism" theme which, if done well, makes for a fantastic read. And it's all a bit sinister...

I've recently started on 'The Book of Illusions' by Paul Auster. It hasn't impressed me muchly yet, but I'm being patient...

I thought Life of Pi was probably one of the most intellectually stimulating books I have ever read.
I like discussing it with other people who've read it, though (because?) I find everyone has read a different book. And each interpretation is individual, and valid.
So, DO banannas float?
Always rooting for the story with the animals.

I won't be reading Life of Pi.
Why, you ask?
Because I'm just done with *this* years Man Booker Prize winner, "Vernon God Little", and I do not trust their judgement. It's crass and crappy, and Douglas Copeland's "Hey Nostradamus!" copes with the subject one hell of a lot better.
Currently reading : "Pattern Recognition" by William Gibson.
Much better.

Just finished reading "Digital Fortress" by Dan Brown. Hmmm...slightly dated (when dealing with digital themes anything older than last week would be) but a good read. Particularly if your favorite hobby is conspiracy theory and paranoia...
Still not eager to try out his "The DaVinci Code", though..
