Don't do anything that doesn't suit your personality.
Smile mysteriously at people ... on trains, in shops, in libraries, at the traffic lights...
Don't judge any Ms or Mrs on appearances. Getting to know people on the phone or Internet is a wonderful way of really finding out what they like before your opinion can be twisted or prejudiced by their appearance.
Ask someone what it might be about you that could put women off. If you have the right kind of relationship with her, ask your mother.
As a mother of three boys, I know what I would suggest to them if they came to me with that sort of question.
And don't take it too seriously.

Ben and Tefkat:
Hooloovoo: cheer up, man! Do you really HAVE to have a "steady" girlfriend to feel good? Don't focus that much on searching: all those friends you made, THEY make you feel good, don't they? It's entirely possible that one day, when she REALLY gets to know you, one of your female friends will fall for you. Who knows, maybe you already have a secret admirer... (The thing about secret admirers is they're SECRET, you don't know about it!)

Hooloovoo: I agree with the above. I know a number of people who have been obsessed with finding a girl. Any girl, all she had to do was breath. And I remember them as being very wound up and not pleasent company down the pub. I always preferred to hang out with the "no fussed" crowd, probably becuase I'm one myself. They probably had as many relationships as the frantic ones, but were a darn site more pleasant when they didn't. These things happen when you least expect it, so just keep the heid and don't fret, it might even help.

Who's Mark Darcy?

From reading a review of Briget Jones' Diary (the movie) in todays metro I know Mark Darcy to be one of the principal characters of the book and movie. Incidently played by Colin Firth who played Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice...

Mark Darcy is the heartthrob from the Diary of Bridget Jones.
I hope I don't hear a supplementary question coming...

Oops
I answered the wrong page.
Who's Bridget Jones?
(And who's Daniel?)
Personally, because I have an air of being two sandwiches short of a picnic anyway (and everyone knows I'm terribly innocent) I tend to pretend I haven't noticed/understood the mockery.
Hooloovoo, do you play a musical instrument at all?
I found offering to teach someone to play the piano was a useful method of seduction. I got to stand very close behind him, leaning over his shoulder, or push him along the stool and sit very close, and hold his hands to move them into the correct positions.
Or you could get a .

How romantic, just like in "101 Dalmatians"...
The music-lessons sound more promising. Does anyone want to learn to play the drums?

Actually the best method for getting a girlfriend that I have found is to stop looking for one. I know, it dosen't make much sense but it works.
Every time I was sick of the dating scene and just wanted to spend time alone, that's when I would run into the girl that I wanted to spend time with and eventually dated.
It's like girls know when you are interested and then they don't want you, but when you are not interested that's when they come out of the woodwork. I guess they are looking for the challenges and not the sure things.

I have no musical talent whatsoever. I come from the "scientists" side of the "there are artists and there are scientists" argument. Of course, then there are the g*ts who are good at both..... grrrr.
I've always wanted to play the guitar. But I've never taken it up because:
1) I have no musical talent whatsoever.
2) If I couldn't play like Brian May within six months I'd give up...... how's that for dedication??

Ahh, yes. Brian May. B*****
d, he has it all.
Hooloovoo, I think I know excactly how you´re feeling. Also cos I´m scientific minded and tone-deaf Don´t you also find it annoying seeing someone like Ally McBeal try desperately to find the only one, when we just try to find _one_

No I don't have to have a *steady* girlfriend. I just want to get rid of this deep-down feeling that no one fancies me. Yes my female friends make me feel good, but I dont get to HAVE SEX with them!

Nah, I'm a man
> Ahh, yes. Brian May. B*****d, he has it all.
And of course, for those that dont know, Brian May is also an astrophysicist. He would be Dr. May if he hadn't given up on his PhD half-way though to play lead guitar with "Queen".
But he hasn't quite "got it all". He's got a permed-mullet.

Oh you got that right.....
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I want "a girl. Any girl, all she had to do was breath". But its very difficult to find Ms Right, when you never get any Ms. Possibles to choose from. Actually, thats not quite right, *I* find lots of Ms Possibles, they just dont find *me*.

Tadaa! There's your answer.
Find a girl that plays the guitar. Tell her you've always wanted to play but never managed to learn.
She'll throw herself headlong into the challenge

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Apr 12, 2001
Very interesting discussion. After many many years as a care-giver, I never had opportunity to become involved, and even when I did have the romantic cravings, it was logistically impossible to advance the cause... So now I think of myself as a little out of the loop, and in a state of equilibrium. And, all things considered, I think this is a good place to be. No way am I denigrating other people's natural desire to pair-bond, but this really is the one area in life where we manage to make ourselves very unhappy by trying to hard.
