Saw this on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwCoSxi9TJU&oref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fresults%3Fsearch_query%3Dsadler%2527s%2Bwells%26aq%3Df
Now, I've seen a lot of modern dance and experimental theatre in my time. But this?
Anybody care to give an interpretation?

Yes, it is art, in my opinion.
I don't necessarily need to interpret it, experiencing it is often pleasurable in itself. If I had to, though, I'd say the choreographer was experimenting with props that are concerned with augmenting mobility. An interesting exercise.

Not only is it art, it's quite stunning and beautiful art!
I'm a little surprised (disappointed) the question was asked.
But then, I'm also glad it was asked -- I wouldn't likely have seen it otherwise.

It told me I had to sign in or confirm I'm old enough to watch this content, so I passed.

Bel it just had a few bare-chested ladies, nothing more salacious than that. Worth watching just for the sheer -ness of it all
I agree with drt - whatever the choreographer was on, I want some of it because it must be amazing. I'd say yes, it's art but that doesn't mean it's any good.

I'd say it's bleeding brilliant!
And I'm more than a little shocked that some would think it's and/or the product of a drugged choreographer.
Being as the clip does not include the whole piece, interpretation would necessarily be tentative (like interpreting Hamlet after viewing only the opening scene), but . . .
I was immediately struck by it being a statement about 'dis'ability in the modern world, and concepts of beauty, and, indeed about concepts of what constitutes art itself (so maybe some of the s are desirable responses). But that all seems sooo obvious.

-'Of course it's art Dud, it's got bare chested ladies in it. That's your proper art that is. That's how you tell, by the bare chested ladies.' -'What, like page three, Pete?'
-'That's right Dud.'
Flippancy apart, it is actually a beautiful bit of dance. Pretentious, confusing and odd, but beautiful.

Anhaga, the drugged choreographer suggestion was me being facetious. It does look like something of a dream sequence. But I freely admit to knowing very very little about art. And nothing about dance.

seems neither odd nor pretentious to me.
But then, this was the ordinary dance of my youth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q876pJ0tWE

It is fresh, original and innovative!
Not a hint of the usual pretensions one often
encounters in brave new works of art. It is done
with taste, style and bravura presentation.
Not sure I'd go see it if it played locally.
Not sure I want to even consider its deeper meaning.
But it is art and it's quite dynamic.
Thanks for sharing.

That's brilliant, anhaga.
Bel, I didn't want to sign up either, but managed to find another way in.

Wow, that's fabulous!
The changes in body movement with an extra limb, or extended limb, moving into a sort of spidery encounter. Absolutely marvellous, I'd definitely go to see that. And what skill from those performers - bravo!

I was also amazed at how well you can dance with crutches and ballet shoes. It made me think of gracious antelopes or something, except antelopes don't walk that way either.
Not so sure about the man on the wheeley-board, but, mainly because of the lightsaber he was chomping on.
Interesting, quite beautiful, and widens horizons.
Of course, there is other art that others adore but I don't. Such is life. And art.

When people ask me what Art is..the daftest question imaginable (because there is no art without context)..I always say, 'She is a very cruel mistress'...
(And she bloody well is ).

Well... I don't get it. Does absolutely nothing for me. But if you like it, fair enough.
Beauty is entirely subjective, despite what the media would have us beleive.

What does beauty have to do with Art?
Except one tiny aspect to do with what some call aesthetics...which is not entirely subjective. Different cultures arrive at different ideas of beauty.
What is always totally silly to me is people who like to oversimplify the incredibly complex and interesting.
I don't get vast amounts of geeky stuff that lots of people seem to like. Yeah it's fair enough.

Which I think proves how subjective beauty is. To me it's a very broad and complex thing, to you it's such a small part of one aspect of 'art' that you assume I'm oversimplifying.

Art doesn't have to be beautiful, in my opinion.
But both art and beauty are, indeed, very broad, and in the eye of the beholder.
