Inevitably, thinking about possible Robin Hood takeovers
which could 'save' h2g2, I have a short list of rich and
famous people I wouldn't really want to see in charge.
Richard Branson
Ricky Gervais
Russel Brandt
Madonna
I wonder how much Tim Minchin is worth these days?
And where's Paul Macca when we need 'im.
All we need is

Would it be a community service project for something the likes of google, or some such idea? It is the guide after all, who can manage it properly?

I think this is an interesting point actually... I've seen lots of people tell us what we aren't today... but what are we?
Answers on a post card...

I tell you what would be fun. Making a site that would make everyone on here happy... or am I living in dream land?
I would love to see something cobbled together and held together with superglue

I just realised I started this thread in the Editors' Forum.
Not sure how I did that. I meant to put it in ASK.
Which shows just how capable I am when it comes to managing webs.
If the EDs feel like moving this thread to ASK please do.
As if they'll have time for that!
BTW it's really good to see so many old timers coming out
to fight the fire.

On the off-chance that a weird company gets formed in a joint venture between Bill Gates and Steve Jobs within the next couple of days, I want it On Record that this new corporation won't purchase h2g2.
We don't need that kind of baggage.

I rather fancy a steampunk version of h2g2, all nice shiny brass valves and large glass dials.

I am wondering what Douglas Adams's estate is thinking about this development. H2G2 was Douglas Adams's creation, and he was a researcher here. If someone came along willing to take over the place, and the Estate felt it was a good fit, would we defer to their opinion? Just wondering.
Also, I recall that Walt Disney made Walt Disney Enterprises pay him for the use of his name. Does Adams's estate receive a yearly fee for the use of the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe" name and catchphrases? That fee would be a cost of doing business, in addition to the staff that would need to be hired, and the computer infrastructure.

Oh, and I forgot that Eoin Colfer has written at least one book in the "Hitchhiker" series since Adams died. I'd be surprised if he didn't have another books in the works by now. Does he have connections who might be helpful?

>> Does he have connections who...<<
Not sure how many friends he has or how much he made
off Book Six but he's stinking rich from his other book
sales and has a soft spot for hootoovillia as well as
established connections with the estate and its lawyers.
Of course so many old timers have come out of the woodwork
today and so many 'new' names have suddenly appeared that
it's hard to know who's lurking on here now.
Sooner or later someone will step up and claim to be Spartacus.
And the seas of red ink will part so we may cross over to
the new promised land.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
