Yes, of course it's much worse with all the sugar.

I don't know exaclty about the life expectancy, but I think it was something like 30-40 years.

There's this idea that population statistics are based on overall mortality. So you get an average of 40 because lots of children died as well as elderly and that reduces the average.

But if we live longer now is that a good thing? obviously we wearn't originally made to live so long. Our bodies can't handle it and causes a lot of physical and metal problems. So maybe we were better off as a race living younger lives. also population wouldn't be as hight either. So would be better that way as we wouldn't destroy our enviroment as much as we currently do smiley - smiley

You pretty much awnsered all i said about modern society right there though. We have caused more problems then we solve now. This fight for more technology and quicker food production is our downfall. If we kept to just our basic instincts it would be better for us all.

Not that i think virtually anyone now adays could handle it as the reliance on technology has become too high! Who here can say they can go and live in a forrest right now with making your own clothes for warmth by animal skins which you had to kill to eat. Making a home out of leaves and sticks. bathing in a river and just living naturally without any kind of modern day influence?

Hm, can I have fire, the wheel and someone with me who can work steel or knap flint?

If yes to the above, I'd give it a go.

Oh, and if I had to pick one, I'd have fire.

I can learn to knap flint and who needs the wheel when you can domesticate animals?

Who needs an animal when you can do things with your own hands? just takes more time. Something people now dont like to do.

Think about it. You are looking at it with a far more modern point of veiw. So think very basic. And use what you were born with, not what you know not which would make life far too easy. Work a little you lazy person!

I hate to do this under normal circumstances but I refuse to hang around when I'm being insulted directly.

Enjoy your little chat with yourself.

May I play peacemaker.

Rod, I think it was RaptorFalx calling her a 'a lazy person' that pissed off Robyn not your well intentioned inquiry which she answered calmly, politely and succinctly in post 163.

I also think Raptor meant his remark to be taken in a Pythonesque way, y'know like when snooty anthropologists encounter cavemen and pass Victorian judgements on assorted primitive lifestyles. Or, when ironically cruel Roman soldiers ask crucifixion victims to cross their legs because they have only the one nail left. His point being that moderns cannot possibly understand the hardships of our 'primitive' ancestors.

That might be something we can agree on. Crikey. I've forgotten what this thread is actually about.

While I do think reliance on high tech is a problem (and one we will be facing within our lives), I think reliance on the nuclear family structure is more of a problem. Humans have historically been tribal, in the sense that you need more than a man and a woman and children to live well without high tech. I'm not sure how we would fare if we had to actually be dependent on people again beyond those we love and like.

You certainly can't do a man lone thing either..

Stan doesn't talk anymore at all, I guess he can't keep up with a halfway scientific discussion. Probably his holy book (I didn't understand whichone it is) has nothing to say about the matter.

Myself and Taff are both suspicious that Stanley is a sock puppet of warner's. When one gets chatty, the other goes quiet. warner has just started up on the Almighty God thread again...
