You shouldn't worry about that...rugby fans tend to be far more civilised than followers of the round-balled game.

Yeah, pretty much all of Ireland has been shaped by people but the huge depopulation caused by... various factors (not pointing any fingers ) means large swathes of it are now uninhabited. Still, virtually every inch - including some pretty inhospitable looking rocks in the Atlantic, has been, at some point shaped by human hand!
And I have to take issue with warner referring to Canada as "God's contry" - everyone knows *we* are given special consideration by God (on account of the neighbours we got.... or so the story goes.... )!

Come on guys he did say,
>It is He who has given us cattle wherefrom we eat and obtain leather and gaze on their beauty as we bring them in from pasture for milking.<
God gave us moo moos as part of the plan of creation. He planted a garden in the midst of his previous creationing stuff to tame it for his finest creation to live in.
Warner is making complete sense here.

just had a believer at the door handing out pamphlets, told him no thanks, i'm an atheist
he asked how did that work and we got into conversation
evolution
my garden
what is more likely
my garden evolved over 13 billion years
or
someone made it 8000 years ago
the 13 billion year option
he said he was supriesed to find a true believer in evolution
i said i didn't believe in it, i didn't need to
it would happen weather i believed or not
this gave him pause and he thought for a moment before saying thank you and goodbye
nice chap, now with something on his mind, my work here is done

IMO you were completely wasting your time Taff. The ones that do the door to door evangelising don't *think*, and don't keep things on their mind. Everything is an angle, a sales pitch. Closing the door immediately is the only message these types understand.
(I'm just talking about the door to door bornagain fundy types. I in no way put everyone with religious sensibility in that category).

I dunno, I like to think I've had an impact on a few.
Like when a couple come to my front door, ask whether I've considered God and my scantily-clad boyfriend comes to me, kisses me on the neck and sweetly asks whether they've considered homosexuality.

So it is a lifestyle choice then?
I have to admit I'm confused (and ill-informed) by those who say it is not a choice but a 'natural' condition and therefore blameless, so one should live and let live, versus those who say it is a lifestyle choice and therefore one can (and should) object to the organisation of any recruitment 'agenda'.
(honestly trying to make it better)

You tell me - did you choose to be straight?
>>I have to admit I'm confused (and ill-informed) by those who say it is not a choice but a 'natural' condition and therefore blameless<<
Blameless? Where does blame come into it? Are you saying that if someone did choose to be gay they'd deserve all the grief they get, that they could be blamed for it?
>>versus those who say it is a lifestyle choice and therefore one can (and should) object to the organisation of any recruitment 'agenda'.<<
What utterly disgusting nonsense. Really showing off your ignorance and small-mindedness if you'd ever consider such rubbish at all.
Genuinely, replace homosexuality with heterosexuality and see if any of your post comes across as anything other than hate-filled garbage.

Oops sorry. Really. I was trying to inform myself on why your scantily clad friend would consider saying what he did if 'choice' was not really involved.
I have long been informed that it is not a matter of choice but a biological imperative and therefore blameless in the traditional homophobic sense of shame and guilt associations (which I do not and never have embraced).
In our more open-minded age a campaign to celebrate the lifestyle is no longer oppressed or prohibited as it would have been. And so now there is a homophobic reaction which insists such promotion allows it to become a lifestyle choice. Clearly it is not.
Sorry if an innocent question got your knickers in a twist.
peace

Yes, every time. And I do wish "they" would stop asking.

I really, really, really hesitate to get involved in this but . . .
Seriously, Iago, ~jwf~'s point is well taken if, perhaps, ill phrased. Your friend *did* suggest that homosexuality was a choice that the evangelisers might wish to try. While obviously meant as a joke intended to send them on their way scandalized, is it really the sort of ammunition anyone wants to give to that sort of person? 'I was told by a homosexual that homosexuality was a free-will choice, not something genetically determined!'
And, another, more obscure interpretation of the joke would be that religious belief is, like homosexuality, not a choice: there are the elect and there are the rest of us and the rest of us are damned no matter what we do.
But, most importantly, it is very amusing to imagine the looks on their faces.

Personally, I think all this sexual orientation stuff from both ends and everywhere else is oversold. Psychological experiments have been done demonstrating responses contrary to supposed orientation. As far as *blame* goes, there's only blame when something is considered wrong. Who thinks homosexuality is wrong but an idiot, anyway.
