Me too, Z, so it's a great relief to hear that Bels is doing well. Shame about the ankle and I hope Bels is up and around again soon.

Hello Bels,
We've not met before but I spent last night reading this thread and your diary.
Just wanted to say there's another person rooting for you over here.
By the way, have you been told about ankles and stairs? Bad (foot)goes down (first) and good goes up. Works every time i sprain mine (am double-jointed so it can happen often).
Love to you and yours
Jules

Hi Bels,
Glad to know you're still punning around!!
I feel for you -- a broken ankle is the most agravating* and awkward injury. I did mine in about 4 years ago. The thing I remember most is the infernal itching!!!!
Hope you're up and about soon!

I am sorry to say that Bels passed away on Tuesday 4th May.
It seemed to be a peaceful passing; he wasn't in great pain or discomfort and his family were with him.
It happened rather more quickly than we had anticipated. He had stopped having treatment a couple of months ago and had therefore been gradually deteriorating. Then, on the Thursday before, he had a kind of stroke while at home and was taken into hospital. We were told then that he didn't have very long, but were fortunate in that he did not lose his speech or his ability to communicate with us until right near the end.
His funeral is on 13th May at 2.30pm, at Golders Green Crematorium.
Thank you for your many messages of support over the past year or so and for keeping Bels in your thoughts.
Gubernatrix

May love and peace surround all your family at this time, G.
I only encountered Bels late on but he will be fondly remembered.
What a strong character.
All my love,
Jules.
