It's my birthday But we're stuck in tonight with the baby and there's nothing on the telly
There is a small video shop in my village, which has the basics, but nothing particularly esoteric. We can't both go to the video shop and browse to agree on a film without taking the baby with us - very distracting. So -
Please can you all help me draw up a shortlist of videos which might e good to watch tonight?
Here's some background info:
We have been to the pictures only twice in the last 18 months, and that was to see the two LotR movies - so they're out.
To my knowledge we've only had one video out in that time - and that was Harry Potter 1
I don't want anything too deep, serious, complicated or scary (and to give you a measure, I still hide behind a cushion at Jonathan Creek)
But then I don't just want a trashy 2-d chick flick.
Any ideas please?

Having watched Erin Brokavich (sp) last night, I would recommend it, and that's coming from someone who *hates* chick flicks with a fierce passion. Or for something more fluffy, but still fun, try Bridget Jones. Both feature a lot of blue language tho', if that bothers you.

I recommend `Family Man`. Nicholas Cage for her and Tea Leoni for him!
A wonderful comedy about choosing the `wrong path` in life and then having a glimpse of what could have been! Buy tissues.

and everyone!
My shortlist is building up, but if possible I'd like to get it longer still, so I've got a better chance of wanting a film that isn't already on loan!
Any other bright ideas please?

Happy birthday!!!
I'd suggest 'Il postino' for your shortlist. It is a sad, funny, poetic film with a lot of Italian sun shine in it . However, it's a couple of years old, so maybe you've already seen it.

Don't make any assumptions when it comes to guessing how up to date I am!
Silly question ellen - is it in 'furrin'?

Happy Birthday!

I know you said that you hid away at Jonathan Creek, which might mean this is not a film for you. 'The Green Mile', which I guess is also deep, serious, and well.......I gues syou wont want to be watching that. Well, I'm sure someone will agree it's a good film, so maybe one day when you aren't afraid of such harsh mystery BBC1 crime investigations. lol. Good luck mate, and happy birthday!

The film is a little different to the book, but it manages to capture the magic of the story.
I think it is an excellent adaptation, eventhe menfolk liked it. They also liked About A Boy too.

Ah, considering the cheeriness of your event, I'm sure that my advice was not worth listening to. No, don't watch the Green Mile. One day, maybe. But not on a happy day. lol.
