People who insist on telling you every boring unnecessary detail of their failed marriages or relationships ad nauseum.
"She took the house an won't let me see the kids."
"He left me for this woman he met, blah blah blah."
Why do they do that?

The Groob Posted Feb 24, 2008
Because it's easier than saying "My choices of partners/spouses are really bad".

The first strip in your link, where Calvin wears his dad's glasses, gets me every time. Doesn't matter how many times I see it, the way his mom's howling on the floor makes me want to join in
My petty hate is that Bill Watterson doesn't do them any more. Luckily they stand many repeat readings

Drivers who enter a roundabout from my right, to whom I give way, who then make aleft turn without indicating - so I have stopped for no reason other than their inconsiderate behaviour.

Drivers who don't indicate.
Come to it, drivers who leave the indicator on while taking over one or more vehicles (even worse, after finishing taking over).
But surely driving petty hates deserve a thread by themselves, eh?

Not sure if this would qualify as a petty hate, but it is annoying enough to me to be considered one.
Politicians who decide to mock people's campaigns, such as Hilary Clinton's diatribe recently against Barack Obama's speeches, but do the same thing they decry in their ads. Example, the other day Mrs. Clinton said in reference to Obama's campaign speeches, "I could just stand up here and say 'Let's just get everybody together, let's get unified.' The sky will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect," makes me roll my eyes and groan, given that the political ads she does are *exactly* like that. Plus, you're trying to get elected, so you are going to do lofty speeches at times. I also think Bill Clinton would play his saxophone during some events - though admittedly not debates. Huckabee's appearance on "Saturday Night Live" last Saturday is also a good example. He still has a chance to be the Republican nom (though it's admittedly increasingly unlikely), but doing lofty stuff like this as well as debating the issues gets him recognized.
Also, I have a petty dislike too when people change their minds about who is at fault as to why Gore didn't win the presidency in 2000. Now, Clinton doesn't blame the stopping of the "recounts" of Florida ballots (which, IMHO, were not going to stop until a. the counts finally went in Gore's favor, given that they were starting to count barely marked chads to "determine intent" or b. someone put the kibosh on it, which did happen).
Instead, she blames Ralph Nader, who according to her, because of his appearance as an independent in 2000, "prevented Al Gore from being the greatest president we could have had and I think that's really unfortunate." She also calls his decision to run "a passing fancy." Of course, what gets me about both is that people are still griping about the voting results in 2000, which are now 8 years after the fact. Plus, for those who gripe about our current president (including myself), every president we've have had has done good and bad things. Whoever is elected will be the same - no one's a saint, so I do finally just get tired of the pettiness of mudslinging.
Guess this irks me because she's down enough votes she must win by most projections both Ohio and Texas in order to have a chance so she's resorting to this name calling and such. Living in Texas, a lot of people are starting to support Obama, though the state is normally Republican in nature since LBJ's tenure. I almost feel as though she's another Howard Dean given her rants, but the voting is yet to be seen.

No, please. I think that would turn into a written form of road rage.
Politicians 'lurks and perks' are petty verging on major hates with me.
Do your pollies get lifetime free travel for themselves and their spouse after they retire or are booted out of office? Plus a superannuation scheme that an arab prince would smile at? There are a heap more of them but i'm getting hot under the collar...time to chill out.

In America, the president and first lady get Secret Service assistance for the rest of their lives. Plus, apparently now if you run for the presidency, you are entitled to some Secret Service protection, as in the case of Obama. Clinton of course already had it given she is a former first lady.
Also, members of Congress get lifetime medical insurance and other perks even when out of office. Most of these people already make a lot more money than most of America does (as in what I make in a year they make in a month, two tops).
Makes me want to say "you're worried about recession? Then take cuts out of your own perks, pay for your own health insurance, and help out the country."

It stinks, doesn't it? Something needs to be done other than saying "Something needs to be done". I'm wondering if there are too many ex-lawyers involved in politics. Perhaps we need a quota?

Totally agree. There are people who serve who make or have made what I do at one time (I'm considered poor, but I live comfortably). But, it's the ones who have the most money who get elected.
This leads to another petty hate, but it reminds me of when a Democratic candidate in a town was the better person for the job lost out to a Republican who had more clout in the money area. He was voted, and because I wrote a fair editorial about his campaign ads and such, he goes *after* the elections over and talks to my boss about how "unfair" it was and how it "affected his wife's career." Uh, how does it affect her career as a teacher when I say that the guy had way too many campaign ads and it did at least appear as though *he* was desperate? Didn't mention his family at all, but personally, I felt he was so because he attacked his opponent's stance in an untelevised forum at council and the opponent had no way to counter the man's claims.

I accidentally hit the return too soon, but the petty hate is why attack a writer's opinion after the election's over when you had plenty of time to counter it. Though personally, I think it was I had a point and he just wanted to save face. He still hasn't been able to stop the issues between Stephenville and Waco as far as the dairy industry and Waco River to my knowledge - which is now 7 years ago at least.

Sorry, one other petty hate. People who think, based on your looks, you are either an idiot or angry all the time.
I have probably what is seen as a bit severe looks as far as my face. That said, twice in one day I have basically have been treated as both. Second one even practically yelled at me for standing up to the fact my coupon was legit (I do feel she was trying to not honor it since it says "buy one (name of treat)" then in smaller type "Or any other flavor (of same treat) - get one free" and the flavor of the month has changed. I could go further, but it could digress into an area I do not wish to develve in.
