h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

OK - this isn't like the 'favourite movie' thread. It's an offshoot of Saturnine's 'burn one movie' thread. In this thread however, you have to seriously defend your choice against all comers, or have it burned. Having said that, if enough people chime in on your side, it can avoid the flames as well...

I'll start with Ralph Bakshi's 1977 animated 'Lord of the Rings'.

My response to this is much the same as my response to the 'favourite film' thread. There are so many films I enjoy, I can't pick just one to defend against all comers. However, if somebody nominates a film I enjoyed, I'll gladly help to defend that film as required.

So I'll start with Frogbit's nomination. I've heard this film slated but, considering when it was made and the technology available, it was a pretty good film. I certainly enjoyed it.

Hayao Miyazaki's masterpiece 'My Neighbour Totoro'. Just to keep up the animated theme, really.

Jurassic Park 2...so many memories wrapped up in that film

Tank Girl. Everyone says it's an awful film, but I absolutely adore it...

Deadly serious demon...it was the film that opened our cinema and I usherred it for 2 months 3 times a day 7 days a week - great times

I'm not saying it's a *good* film just that I'd hate to see it burnt...plus it's not bad if you watch it as a comedy - specially the last 20 minutes

Towering Inferno.

*pictures Saturnine cheerily heaping another armful of ill-favoured action films onto the pyre only to retract in horror as she realises a copy of the cinemtatic masterpiece and prized element in our cultural heritage, 'Tankgirl', has somehow found it's way into the flames*

For me it would have to be Akira Kurasawa's "Seven Samurai". I couldn't even begin to defend it when many people might be put off by the fact that it's black & white, in Japanese, and at times quite bleak. I loved it for all those reasons and many more; especially the reasons why the samurai got together to help the villagers - the different motives, fears and hopes.

Is it arright if i just Burned all the Films ... xcept Films where Dragons Play a role in ???

I'm supposed to be unbiased, but you know that's never entriely the case...Let's ahve some redeeming features. And while we're at it, Dragon movies. I have a copy of Dragon Slayer that goes in next - followed by Dragonheart, unless someone does some really excellent arguing...
