Saturnine
Is it?
How so abusive?
In answer to your question. Yes.
Does that make a difference?
Or are you just being Saturnine
Oh I see I’ve been yiked. That’s interesting

In my situation he did seem hell bent (sorry !) on conversions and he did state that his mission was to let everyone know about it . It doesn’t feel as if he’s merely expressing his personal view. And that’s all, It feels like he has an agenda.
I don’t think that the post I had now sent to moderator had anything offensive in it either, at no point did I refer to mental illness. But somebody has taken exception to it, obviously
Which just goes to show how different we all are and that was my point. When referring to subtle brain washing techniques I was viewing a concern that even one person might be doubting themselves as a result of a personal JtP tirade.
It’s a bit funny to me that I’ve been moderated in a thread about freedom of speech. Also this is my first yikes

(Actually I’m posting blind as my computer has made my text box tiny- hence some errors)
Hoo will tell you that we have crossed swords before and we’re still speaking. It’s hurtful, but I don’t think he sees it as such.

Lady in a tree:
"the links for the threads I was referring to
F19585?thread=225200
F19585?thread=225211"
The first of those concerns Justin only indirectly. It's about ME (call me egotistical...) and the fact that stuff I posted was moderated, despite it being only quotes of (at the time) visible posts. And that's all it's about.
The second again concerns Justin only indirectly. I posted a question about whether the statement that a church leader is the incarnation of a mythical figure from superstition is offensive. It was dragged round to a discussion of the specifics by... Blues Shark. Ah well.
"The threads up there are not directly about him"
Thank you for admitting that. The only person I was drawing attention to directly was myself, and that only because something had happened which I was fuming about.
"but there is definitely and underlying theme."
And the theme was not Justin, and in fact I provided no links to him. You'd need to go looking to find out about him. I was NOT interested in drawing attention to him on those threads. That was not my intention at all, in either case.
"It is apparent (rightly or wrongly) to me that the things he says on here affect you somewhat more than it does others."
Hmm. You are, of course, right. I've a list on my personal space of things I dislike, and "people who are deliberately ignorant and proud of it" is top. Yer man is pretty much the archetype of that, so you are spot on, he does get my goat far more than he does yours.
"I did read the entire backlog before I posted. I did not "lie". I did "bother to check my facts.""
I apologise unreservedly then. I'm sorry I implied you had. I just disagree with your interpretation.
"I hope our paths don't ever cross again as I have not enjoyed this experience at all."
I'm sorry.

Blues: with pleasure
Have a read of post 135...
"On a different note, Blues Shark.... why should an impartial observer find your gadfly-like dogging of Hoovooloo particularly different from his gadfly-like dogging of his pet fundies"
The ah well was a note of resignation in that, in much the same way that Justin has his "fan club" of people who turn up and disagree gently with him more or less wherever he goes (Matholwch, Jordan, myself, Alji, others...), I seem to have managed to accrue a single-member fan-club of my own in you. And I'm slightly amused that someone else has noticed and commented upon it...
And looking back at those two threads Lady-i-a-t linked to, it does looks to me like you're there wherever I turn. It doesn't bother me, any more than I think it bothers Justin that Matholwch is so compassionately, persistently, politely omnipresent in his threads. I just thought I'd toss in a little .
Thanks for asking...
"I'm sorry to say that it's a real possibility I shall have treat threads with your good self in them like I do threads with JTP in them : Avoid them like the plague."
Well, if you like. I'm forced to wonder what's changed, as I don't think I'm noticeably different eighteen months or even twelve months ago than I am now...
OK, now a weird one.
I've been keen to keep this thread on topic - it's a survey. It would death to the thing if people had to plough through a mountain of backlog to find out WHAT the survey is about, so in an attempt (successful, so far, I think) to keep people new to the thread informed I've posted the gist of the thing several times here.
Now... one of those messages has been pulled. And here's the thing: the moderation email said:
"This decision has been made because it constitutes spam. Spamming is the posting of the same or very similar messages to lots of Forums."
Get that, peeps: "LOTS of Forums".
This thread, on its own, is, apparently, LOTS of Forums. I've certainly not posted reiterated clarification of what this thread is about anywhere else - what on earth would be the point?
Now, I know there are certain uncharitable jokes about various minorities, implying that they are thick because they count "one, two... er... three... LOTS"!
But the management of this site apparently START with "lots", and count upwards from there. How inconvenient must that be?
"How many sugars, dear?" - "Oh, lots, please, I'm trying to cut down."
"I beg your pardon, how many times did you say you've had your appendix removed?" - "Lots. Isn't that normal?"
"Now sir, yes, please step out of the car. Now, how many pints of beer did you say you've drunk tonight?" - "Lots, officer, honestly!"
Anyway, an update is clearly needed - see post 141, which BEGINS with the words "too much backlog", and note also that there've been a lot of new people posting here.
Fortunately, the moderation email also said:
"If you would like to re-write your contribution to remove the problem, then we'd be very happy for you to post it again."
Well, the majority of this posting is NOT the same, or even vaguely similar, to ANY others I've ever written, so I'm sure it'll be fine to remind everyone why I started this conversation in the first place...
As a reminder for people who can't be bothered with backlogs...

Quick survey: do you find U195767 acceptable? He wants to know if, and I quote, "the vast majority" of the community find him acceptable.
So, votes please. My own vote is a big "YES" I most definitely DO find him acceptable.
Anyone else?

>I'm forced to wonder what's changed, as I don't think I'm noticeably different eighteen months or even twelve months ago than I am now...<
You're right, you haven't. I'm just more easily bored by the boorish and insensitive behaviour you exhibit towards those that disagree with you. I have less patience when confronted with it than I used to have. Which is exactly the other thing you have in common with Justin, in case you are wondering.
As to my presence in the other two threads, well, perhaps you were raising issues that were, and indeed still are important to h2g2, and the way it runs and responds to different needs. As a member of the community I'm entitled to have a say on those issues. As I don't actually insist on commenting in every thread you are in, I think it self evident that i have no interest in you per se. Frankly, I wouldn't want to give you the satisfaction of thinking you were that important, as a person.

I'm not going to involve myself to deeply in the bickering, but in response to the *fan club* theme, pulled out into the open by GTBacchus (I think anyway - so much backlog) I merely have to say this. Justin is fulfilling his role in life, and I am merely fulfilling mine...want a quote?

HV and Blues Shark; you may have issues you need to dispute, but perhaps here may not be the place for you. Perhaps move a personal dispute to a more personal place?

"you may have issues you need to dispute"
I have no issues whatever with Blues Shark. He asked me a question, I provided the answer. I'd rather we kept on topic (which would mean this thread would mainly be people popping in, registering an opinion and popping out, with any substantive discussions about side issues taking place somewhere else) but people will digress...
So he's less patient and more easily bored - . What's to dispute?

>So he's less patient and more easily bored<
You forget the crucial part of the sentence Hoov. I am less patient and more easily bored BY YOU AND YOU ALONE.
Which is the sort of misrepresentation and twisting of words that I have come to expect from you in recent times, I'm afraid.

This is a copy of a reply to a message Hoov left me yesterday.
"Hey Hoo. Thanks for the personal touch.
"Was I aware of his presence before Hoo started crowing it from the rooftops? No."
I could have easily neutralised this sentence by sticking a winkeye on the end, but deliberately didn't. At the time I was pissed of with you for drawing attention to this character who otherwise seemed to be keeping a low profile.
I was wrong. I shouldn't have tried to suggest you were making a fuss over nothing. My interest in H2G2 was faltering - there are a few big egos about, and some idiots I couldn't be bothered arguing with. However, your thread on Justin's acceptability has changed my mind - there are still an awful lot of good people here - thanks a lot for bringing it to my attention.
Best wishes,
Frogbit."
Ironically, the next time I look in on the thread, people are chucking fruit at each other and generally behaving like...oh f*ck it. I'm going to bed.
