I've just drunk two bottles of red wine, should I drink Vodka next (not too much left, about half-bottle), or drink --beer, bitter, (about 8-10 cans left), is it a good idea to drink either after red wine?

I have heard that it is bad to mix alcohol with marajuana and other drugs but I really don't see how mixing alcohol with alcohol can hurt.

Hi Phreacko!!!!!!!!!
What you studying in the six days time? Degree? or something like that?
Well, I do know that mixing alcohol can be a bad thing; trust me I've done it to excess before, its due to the impurities in the booze but, I want to know the lesser of the two evils : having beer or vodka???
Mixing graptes with apples is I think ment to be bad; I.E. wine followed by cidar of visa versa?
And beer mixed with wine or cidar is I think a bad idea;
my worst experiances revolve aournd beer, wiene, vodka/wisky, and cidar, which was probably a bad idea in the past, I think I don't know I am just supprised I've been do long without H2G2,
:: not quite

Mixing beer and wine is never a good idea, there is some rhyme to do with the grape and hop, but after a marguerite, two enormous glasses of wine (amazing how much is left in a wine box when everyone else thinks its empty!), I can't remember it!
All I know is that out of experiences of myself, friends and family members, mixing beer and wine causes hangovers.
Even Black Velvet, as wondeful as it is, can be dire the next day!

Sorry for the innaccurate information. I had never heard that before. But what would I know? I'm still an underage drinking but thanks for the bit of information.
2legs - In six days I start my freshman year of college. I will most definately study some type of engineering or computer science. I don't have to decide exactly until my second year of college. All of the engineering majors take basically the same classes in their first year and some of the requirements are the same for engineering and computer science. I might decide to do a double major. The only bad thing about the fact that I am soon going to college is that it might mean that I will have to cut back on h2g2.

As there has been no reply yet from 2Legs, he must have made his choice by now, or is lying on the floor incapable of typing anything coherent!

The phrase somebody was looking for is, 'Never mix the grain with the grape.' I usually take 'grain' to mean *any* alcoholic drink made with some kind of grain, just to be on the safe side. So, if I've been drinking wine I won't drink beer or whisky. I don't know what vodka is made of, but it's probably grain-based. If you've been drinking wine and the choice is now beer or vodka, quit.
If you do decide to go ahead, drink plenty of water before you turn in for the night. A large part of any hangover is dehydration, and drinking water helps to reduce this.

I've heard of not mixing the grain and the grape - I've never taken much notice of it though. That said, I normally either stick to beer or follow beer with whisky - I'm not huge on wine. Red wine is worse for hangovers, I'm sure, I gather it's to do with congeners, whatever they are. Vodka is usually a fairly safe bet - it's relatively lacking in side-effect causing additives. I can't remember what it's made from, but I agree it's probably grain.
Cheerful Dragon's advice about drinking water is excellent advice which I always follow if I've overindulged. If you should wake in the night to lighten your liquid load, it's a good idea to take on still more water at that point.

Diluting all that alcohol w/ water is not just good advice, but probably essential.
Also BEFORE YOU GO TO BED take any Vitamin C you have (at least 1000mg - god knows what that is in dollars).
And if you have Alka Seltza OR Ibuprofen take a couple of them too.
Don't take paracetemol - they put an additional strain on your liver, which you have just punished like an evil thing.
Just off to mix a rum and coke...

The expression I remember is "Beer before wine makes you feel fine. Beer before Liquor, never been sicker."
Sorry-I can't remember any more than that.
Just remember to take some aspirin and water before bed, and you should be fine.... Depending on when you must rise tomorrow..

Dorothy Parker said 'Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker' but I was never sure if that was about nausea or seduction...

According to http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A132238 vodka is made from corn, barley or potatoes. Hope this helps.
