some more I've just remembered.
in England it's law (but i've never seen it enforced) that all boys over the age of 14 must practice 2 hours of archery on the village green before going to church.
also its law (but never enforced) that every vehicle on the road in england must have a man walking in front of it waving a red flag. (he must be going pritty fast on the motorway/freeways)
after WWII when the peace treaties were drawn up one included scotland england and wales but failed to include a town that is smack bang on the border and so counts as neither (no i cant remember the name of it, i know i should)and so for several more years this little town was still at war with Germany, this mistake has now been corrected fortunatly.

Me thinks you are talking about Berwick on Tweed. However, it was seperate from both England and Scotland at the beginning of the nineteenth century. So, when Britain declared war on France and Napolean Berwick was listed along with the Channel Island, Isle of Man etc. but when the peace treaty was signed it was not mentioned, having been moved into England by then. Either that or it was at the time of the Crimean War, I can't remember now. Bother!
I believe a similar thing happened with Sicily and the Crimean War.

If I remember correctly from my mum's old Hello mags, Fred Truman's daughter is married to Raquel Welch's son. Or maybe it's the other way about, but I seem to remember the bride being rather hacked off that Raquel Welch was swanning about in a slinky frock on what should have been her big day.

Regarding Berwick-on-Tweed, it was at war with Russia until sometime in the mid 60's when a delegation came over to seal a peace treaty.
But much more importantly, Britain and Zanzibar were at war with each other for thirty-eight minutes in 1896.

Merthyr Tidfill also play in the English league because at the time of the creation of the Welsh league, Tydfill were in the conference, so could have got into league football.
They didn't.

I've remembered the information for this thread, discussed with Munchkin aaaages ago.
My head is so big, that during my two month 'tour of duty' in the Air Cadets, they had to send away for a specially sized hat...
