Just started 'The Last Contintent' in my chronological sweep throgh Pratchett. I am now getting into the later books, which I have only read once, and thoroughly enjoying them.
Just finished 'Modesty Blaise' by Peter O'Donnell. MB is a kind of female James Bond, but much more fun and with a better sense of humour - a kind of 1960s Lara Croft, I guess. I was going to lend it to the guy whose guns I practice shooting with, but ended up nicking it back to re-read, myself.

"Ted Hughes : the life of a poet" by Elaine Feinstein.
It's kind of...anti-Sylvia Plath...which is interesting.

"Batavia's Graveyard" by Mike Dash. An article in Peer Review caught my interest. It's pretty good so far.
I have just finished "A Brief History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson - really good, refers to a lot of my favourite books - how did he learn so much in just 3 years?
Also I recently read "The Demon in the Freezer", "Around Ireland with a Fridge", "Krakatoa - The Day the World Exploded" and "Berlin 1945, The Downfall".

Well, being the messy person I am, I'm in the middle of several books:
"Aunts aren't gentlemen" by P.G. Wodehouse
"Notes from a small island" by Bill Bryson
and "Hitchhiker - a biography of Douglas Adams" by M.J. Simpson

Dune - Frank Herbert.
Read it years ago as a kid and thought it was about time I reacquainted myself with it.

Finished Enemy Women, I really recommend it, it's romantic but not slushy
I'm now going to do a couple of historical 'bodice ripping' romance books I picked up in a charity shop

Since I'm a member of the hootoo I read less, but still something, for the moment I'm rereading "Three Men in a Boat" by Jerome K Jerome and "The Cider House Rules" by John Irving. I can only recoommend them, as every Irving I've read up to now and there are many other books too.

"The 13½ lives of Captain Bluebear" ... utterly utterly daft but very enjoyable ... get some pretty odd looks from those who aren't in the know ... just as well it's such a small and discreet tome*!
*aka "Just smaller than Oregon"
As I said, utter nonsense the whole way through but then again, the world's gone loony so it's kind of fitting ...

"Debt of Honour" and its sequel "Executive Orders" by Tom Clancy, simultaneously because I can't put the latter down.
In the first (1995) book some Japanese millionaire manages to start a brief US-Japan War. (Odd since Japan doesn't have much of a military after the US made it renounce war in its post-WWII Constitution)
In the second (1996) book a plane is flown into Capitol Hill (ereily like Sep 11, 2001: is this where Al Qaeda nicked the idea from?) killing the President, Cabinet and virtually every member of Congress leading to Jack Ryan becoming President.
Key: Complain about this post
