Hmm... check your home spaces, kiddos... You'll hear no more from me on this thread about that particular topic.

The news media is what frightens me most of all. National Public Radio is at this point the only really objective news source in the nation. Traditionally, the FCC is supposed to keep the news balanced between the right and left, but recently it's all been about what the White House wants to promote. The Gulf War started with an public relations campaign - this time, the Republicans own all of the major news networks. MSNBC (sounds like a joke, doesn't it! Coming next - FBIBM!) and Fox News are the worst about slanted reporting, but I understand from Della that CNN's hands aren't clean, either. Then there's the editors dropping like flies...

Check out Bushwatch.com - it's got a great article about how the news media is being sat upon by higher-ups to prevent dissenting articles from reaching the public.

Thanks. That's a great site. Lots of interesting things. The 'Bushlexia' is hilarious.

I saw Oprah dealing with Gov Ryan and his commutation of the sentences of 171 prisoners on Death Row - she called it 'controversial', featured the families of victims and generally showed that she is as much a slavish devotee to non-thought as you say! After her excellent programme on Iraq, I must say I was surprised! More fool me!smiley - laugh

I'm not overly familiar with Oprah (thankfully) but from what I've seen of her, she seems extremely gullible. She tends to hold the opinions of the last person she spoke to.

A mouth-piece for anyone with an agenda.

Like most public figures that want to keep their jobs, Oprah's opinions are the opinions of the majority. She's kind of a barometer - when you want to know what the great unwashed think, watch Oprah.

Oprah has improved - she used to be Jerry Springer-like, but it seems to me that the people she has in her audience are thinking on reflex - not that I watch Oprah a lot! I've been a bit horticultural lately, and having time off work...smiley - peacesign

Sorry to interrupt, but I thought you may want to hear the American government's new stand on Saddam's WMD.
According to Rumsfeld, Saddam may have ordered them to be destroyed before the invasion.

It is, of course, a pity that he didn't see fit to film this destruction, or invite impartial observers along, as America would then have no reason to invade.

Bush, it seems, has been reading a different script. According to him, they had been 'looted' before the war started.

The words 'rope' 'enough' and 'hanging' mysteriously spring to mind...

oh no! smiley - laugh

"as America would then have no reason to invade." - sadly enough, I think another "reason" would have been dreamed up.

As I understand it, the intelligence smiley - erm that the U.S. based the invasion of Iraq upon included the little factoid that the WMD had already been destroyed. Bush just neglected to mention that in his little State of the Onion address.

To my great relief, we're finally seeing some news coverage on how Bush presented misleading information to the American public and the world. Some of the reports are giving him the benefit of the doubt (misled by his cabinet and advisors) while others are saying that he deliberately misled the public. Unfortunately, the one thing they agree on is that Bush is still enjoying popular support. If those rednecks stop reading 'People' and start watching real news, that might change.

Wouldn't it be funny if Geraldo Riviera and Saddam Hussein turned out to be the same guy...

Bit of trivia - Geraldo Riviera's real name? Jerry Rivers. He changed it to celebrate his ethnicity back in the seventies.
