Silver Sword Quest - The Death and Return of Chivalry

: And then people wonder why the 'overland' theme to either of the N64 LoZ games would be ning in my head... <-Hey, what the?! I guess that's the closest to Link... kind of wish there was a or smiley.

so ... wade the river, build a bridge, retreat, try to find somebody to ask whether they've crossed the river before, do whatever. Is this a puzzle or a red herring? Decide how your characters will deal with this situation.
(Gandark's memory of the place is useless now. Who knows how much the river may have changed/moved?)

*looks at the river* A possibility presents itself. Presumably, the wolves we encountered live somewhere near water, in order to drink. We could follow the river and get them when they aren't expecting it, or at the very least, get an estimate as to how many there are.

[Gandark] oh ... OK ... if we'd acted sooner we could have just followed their trail ... we woulda hit the river eventually I'm sure ... but didn't we decide to forget them already? or maybe we could find out if somebody intelligent is controlling them. There was that weird metal band ...

[Sharp]: "well, If we want to evade pursuit... or at least delay any foes who might be trying to go after us, perhaps we should dismantle the bridge after we are finished crossing it? Asuming if we are going to make a bridge..."

[Gandark] can we do that? what sort of bridge? you have some kinda chain / grappling hook thing you can throw across the riber and hope it catches on a tree maybe?
[Gandark] Of course, it looks safe to cross, except for the possibility of the current being too strong. Perhaps if we had some way to measure the strength of the current we'd know whether it was safe to cross ...
*puts his foot in the water*
It gets jerked violently downstream before he manages to get it out.
[Gandark] Pretty darn strong current all right!

oh sorry, which post was that?
oh, those were magic chains? I thought you had some actual real chains that you were throwing across the river.
could you please give a reasonable out-of-character explanation of this magic chains spell, so I can give you your success/failure results?

: Casting chains works for two different purposes: Either you can do that to use it like a grappling hook for one turn/to ensnare something... or you can deploy them as though throwing. They hold in place, like the shield. <-Does that sound ? The catch is that it works better for climbing or a structural 'element' than as an attack (well, you know what I mean). *s*

OK I will allow such things are possible but only at short range. You can't, for exmple, just get across the river by saying "Oh, I cast "bridge" lol* and then get to the top of a mountain by sayin *Uh, I cast a "climb-mountain-instantly-without-effort" spell* you know. Yu've got to kind of have a reasonable explanation in your head of why and how your character first learned the spell, why he thinks it is the best spell to apply, what group of magic it's in or some kind of information about it. Mentioning where you got it from or something can help the both story and your character development quite a bit. And, uh, though there's no number limit on learned spells, if your character seems to already have a handy-dandy spell to solve every problem ... he can get kinda boring to go on an adventure with.
OK ... so assume the spell will only reach two-thirds of the way across the river. (I did say it was very wide didn't I?)

: , no... I don't think you did. *growls* <- Er, that was my stomach,- I think... ^_^|
[Sharp]: "Aw, D@*n!" *Gives up on the spell-route* *looks around* "Say, isn't there some sort of a snag,-or other sort of large-dead tree in these ort of places,-usually?" *finds it/this most odd...*

[Gandark] Yeah! Does anybody have a huge axe? hang on a second ... are we really leaving without any heavy-duty warrior types? That like, mindlessly kill people? I mean ... it always helps when you bring along some of them.

[Sharp]: *Grits his teeth well muttering to Gandark* "Eh,-I donnknow if they'd quite like to have-it worded-tha-way...?" *Has images in his mind of people skewered through by several spears each,-and with flames in the background, no less*

: I think it is still within the realm of black magic to generate chains to shoot at things,-wouldn't you? <- If that isn't destructive enough,-there was this other idea I'd been saving maybe for later *casts flaming brick* <- just kidding. That'd just be mean as h*ll. . GTA,- Civil Unrest Edition... I can see it now... <-I kind of really do not want to though... s, .
[Sharp]: "You know,-those skillful fellows,-the ones who are so nimble-quick... and skill-ed..." *Wonders if this is perhaps a bit much*

: That,-or maybe like some sort of hunting-horn,-to call Flunk??? Hmm... remember him?
Silver Sword Quest - The Death and Return of Chivalry
Thorn Posted Dec 16, 2005
: Who else wants to bring Flunk in... for s? Maybe we can get him to try and drink up the river, or something... that,-or maybe...eh? gets an idea.
: "Hey Gandark,-do you remember that giant who Anole and you and I," *Almost says, "and Aeryn."* *Looks at his scythe, remembering the lady-thief, who had given it to him* "...had befriended that time when we were camping in the dark forest? I wonder what ever happened to him..."
