How 'bout dem Seachickens?
FiedlersFizzle Posted Mar 11, 2003
The only other team that seems to be generating any excitement and feelgood factor amongst their visiting FA's right now is..... wait for it..... the Bengals.... .... No!! Don't laugh! I'm serious!!
Particularly defensively... Marvin Lewis and D-Co-ordinator Leslie Frazier are wowing the defensive guys they've brought in... They've already signed Kevin Hardy, John Thornton, Tory James and Carl Powell and others are visiting...
Personally, of all the new HC's I would like to see Lewis succeed the most... now it's with the Bengals so the odds are against him, but so far things seem to be on a minor upturn....

Well, see my comments in the free agency wish list thread about my thought about the Bungals. I wish them well, but they aren't interested in really trying to win, it seems to me...
I actually think it's short-sighted of us to put off Holliday in the hope that Douglas will sign. Sign the man who wants to come, sign the man showing the enthusiasm - if Douglas suddenly sees his SB disappearing (by his own admission, his only priority), will he continue to give 100%?

I would tend to agree with you about Holliday... a lesser player than Douglas, but not by that much and with plenty of years left... I'd rather take the guy who's chomping at the bit to sign with you...
And on a similar point... Kitna likes to have his whinge doesn't he... it wouldn't be a proper off-season without a Kitna moan...
Why keep a player (Spikes) who has made it perfectly clear he no longer wants to play for you... why go through a hold-out or whatever and distract your team, especially when you're trying to start a new era...
I say, let him go, wish him well and move on... as Lewis seems to be doing..

Hmm, maybe. I just have a funny feeling that Holmgren and Ferguson are sitting on Jones until the draft. Can't see it would have hurt the Bungals to do the same with Spikes. If they really weren't interested, why tag him at all?

So 'dem chickes have forgone signing Kwamie Lassiter and signed Damien Robinson, formerly of the Bucs and Jets, instead... apparently he has already been pencilled in as the starting FS.... Must be an ecomnomic decision as I'm sure Lassiter is a far superior player... and Robinson is no spring chicken at 29!!
Also, it looks more and more likely Hugh Douglas will re-sign with the Eagles due to the lack of a significant offer from the teams he's visited with (Seattle, KC and the Giants)... looks like the Hawks are about to make an offer to Holliday....

Well we've solved our Free Safety need by signing Darrien Robinson from the Jets - originally a 4th round pick by the Eagles (then under Ray Rhodes...), spent four years at Tampa and the last two at the Jets.
I have no idea howe i feel about this as his is not a name I know...Any 'Fins fan out there want to give me some opinion?

29 is no spring chicken, but it's not ancient, either - presumably this has something to do with Rhodes...he is quoted as saying it adds 'speed and aggression' to the defensive unit...

As for economics - the conservative estimates where that, allowing for re-signing Simmons and Jones, and Draftees, we had $8.5 to $9 million for free agency...I'm not *sure* this is an economic decision - this is another Ray Rhodes signing...
Of course, if last year taught us one thing, it was the importance of not being jammed right up to the salary cap because injuries really start to hurt then...

Well, Robinson was on a good Tampa defense at the beginning of his career where his position coach, Herman Edwards, thought enough of him to bring him to the Jets... his last two years at NY were somewhat spotty and controversial... highlights, or lowlights, include receiving a fine for ripping off the helmet of Aaron Brooks in a game against the Saints... he then suffered the indignity of receiving a pounding from an incensed and very scary Kyle Turley... he was also in hot water earlier last season after publicly ripping his team mates and coaches after the Jets 1-4 start to the season...
The Jets released him, but not really for cap reasons. They feel they have a better, younger player in Jon McGraw... still, Robinson is big (6-1, 220) and by all accounts is a big hitter...
Other than that, I know little about him... I could give you a scouting report if I can bring myself to watch the Jets again....

No, that's fine, I don't believe in inflicting cruel and unusual punishments, even on Fins fans . He has decent enough figures looking as the Jets summation of his career - as you point out, his previous coaches have thought enough of him to drag him round the league - I guess Rhodes still remembers him.
We've had controversial players before - anybody remember that boy Watters...Holmgren appears to hae the magic touch when it comes to those types...

He never had any problems at Tampa as far as I can recall... just seemed to go through a bit of a wierd spell at the Jets... I dunno if there were any underlying personal problems or not contributing to this... my impressions, for what it's worth, I was surprised when Tampa let him go but not surprised when the Jets did the same... not sure if that means anything....

Means he a player gone through a bad patch, I'd guess. Much like Reggie Tongue did when he first joined us.
I'm sure Rhodes will help him find his form again...

Oh, Jeff Feagles has upped and offed to NYG...not a move I was expecting. We've responded by signing Ex-NYG punter Rodney Williams, one of four punters we had in, including Matt Turk (who must have his planting foot in the grave by now...)

True enough, partly the reason we didn't struggle too much to re-sign I'd guess...
Still Feag's has sort of been part of the furniture at Seattle for a long time...

Robinson apparently *was* Rhodes' choice, Rhodes feeling he was quicker and bigger than Lassiter (and perhaps crucially, four years younger).
Interestingly, we have apparently contacted Jason Sehorn's agent with regard to the prospect of moving him to safety...

Looks like we're in the market for a Kicker, then, as 'Flaky' Lindell has signed a tender from the Bills.
Darrell Jackson has all but said that he's coming back, but he's 'Exploring his options' in New York, where the jets seem to be talking to everybody and anybody...
Charlie Clemons has been in town, and as the Pack have apparently broken off talks with him in order to allow them room to fight off the expected bid for Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, looks like we might be in a one horse race or his services...

Well, Lindell has signed the offer from the Bills, but the Seahawks still has a week to counter that offer. If they want him back, of course.

Hmm, i can't see us struggling too hard to keep to keep Lindell, who is erratic, to say the least...
As for Clemons, well, we have a lot of room at the moment, though presumably Vonnie Holliday is sticking it to us atm as he has the whip hand in those negotiations now...
