How 'bout dem Seachickens?

Thanks to the Dolts farcical contract for Peyton Manning, Miami may just be able to sign UFA Edgerrin James next year, who has already expressed his desire to play in Miami....

Well it certainly seems that the Dolts have decided that thy can survive just with Manning alone. I wonder what they'll do when Marvin wants his slice of the pie. And my guess is he's gonna want a pretty big slice...
Why would you want to sign james if you're so confident that Minor can do the business?

To join Ricky Williams, David Boston, Antuan Edwards and Cade McNown as 1999 first rounders to play for Miami... I just know it's Rick Spielmans secret plan. He even made a run for Damien Woody and John Tait earlier this year...
Heck, we even brought Dimitrious Underwood in at one time....
(Of course, saying McNown 'played' for Miami is a little misleading....)

If that's his plan, Spielman missed. He shot for Donovan McNabb and hit AJ Feeley.

And so, another season of high hopes and low achievements sinks into the west for the Seachickens.
For the second year running it is special teams that are to blame as Special teams Coach Michaels gets his marching orders, as does team president Bob Whitsitt. We lose VP Thompson to the Packers.
Holmgren gets to stay for at least one more year. I can only assume that he has some really bad dirt on Paul Allen, because thats the only explanation I can think of for the continued presence of a man who has limped to just over .500 since he arrived in town. Another man starngely keeping his job is WR coach Nolan Cromwell, who coached a group that led the NFL in dropped passes. Holmgren stated that it was his belief that under the circumstances it was the players who got fired, not the coach. If I was Robinson and Engram I'd be bothered, but that would only leave us with D-Jack (hardly blameless in the drop arena himself) and possibly the returning Jerry Rice.
And of course, there's the defence. Ful of holes and very young. Injuries to Wistrom, Simmons and Brown insured that the three key members of Rhodes defence played only five quarters together all year, and after week three it was a long and painful year for a young secondary brutally exposed to some of the better passing attacks in the league. On the plus side Trufant, Lucas and rookie S Boulware made strides. On the other hand, rookie DT Tubbs was hardly the impact player predicted.
BUT;
Just as the front office goes into meltdown, we find ourselves with no fewer than 16 unrestricted free agents on the books. Most noticeably Alexander, Jones and Hassellbeck, but also team sack leader Chike Okeafor and corner Ken Lucas as well. We can only franchise one player - and Holmgren has already made it plain he thinks it unlikely it will beJones. Hass will likely stay. His stock took a beating through an injury plagued year and he knows where his bread is buttered with regard to Holmgren. Okeafor is an unknown quantity - he was hardly a hot property when we picked him up from the 49ers, but i detect his price has risen somewhat since then. Lucas will be the most likely to go as the league is still chronically short of good Corners. Pro-Bowler Alex Bannister may well be tempted to stay as he largely avoided being part of the pass drop group and if K-Rob and Engram are on the way out then he will benefit in a move up the depth chart.
But what a time to leave the front office in dissaray. Time to get the finger and the cheque-book out Mr Allen.

I wonder if the Cowboys will have a lok at Lucas in the off season.. They've been struggling at Corner for a while and desperately need new blood there.

When was the last time the Cowboys weren't struggling at Corner?
My guess is Lucas will stay - he has been the chief benificiary of Holmgrens loss of patience with Shawn 'sharpie' Springs and with Bobby Taylor being a VERY expensive bust, we need to hold on to him.

I was going to say Everson Walls - which is another 10 years before that!!
What about Shaun Alexander? Will he stay or go? Should he stay or go after the "I was stabbed in the back" episode?

If we can afford him, he will stay. One heat of the moment comment made in anger isn't going to sour his relationship with anybody at a team where he has been happy and extremely productive. Holmgren hasn't even bothered talking to him about it.
He's almost certainly going to be labeled as the Franchise player this year, so he's going to be very expensive in any event.

Looks like Shaun moved one step closer to the Franchise Tag today as it was announced that Big Walt Jones has finally put his moniker on a seven year contract.
My money is still on Hass to stay, so maybe, just maybe we can keep the nucleus of this team together...
And this without a club president still...

And the June cuts are in.
Out goes Bobby Taylor - no great suprise, and out goes K-Rob.
No the proof of the puddng is whether D-Jac will rise to the challenge.

And added Jerome Pathon, Joe Jurevicus, as well as keeping Jerome Urhban, Alex Bannister and Bobby Ingram.
You'll forgive me if I don't think we are actually short of receivers this year.
What we do have is a big running back type hole.
