Mr. X ---> "Be excellent to each other. And party on, dudes!"

SoA and ToB both deserve 12 on a 1-10 scale.

At some point we should probebly come up with a realistic scoring for this.

Yes, the donkey can be killed smiley - sadface

The really annoying thing with Dungeon Siege is that you lug all this gear around and there are very few places to sell it. I haven't yet played a multiplayer with it, so I don't know if you get your own donkey or have to share one.

I'm getting a faint urge to play Diablo again, it's ages since I've been on dear old battle.net.

Sounds like Baldur's Gate.

Is Diablo any good?

Diablo is pure hack and slash fun. It still draws new players and must be over 6 years old now, but new downloads and updates appear regularly and must be one of the best supported games ever.

Battle.net is free and they have worked hard on blocking hackers which was a problem in the early days and if you get a good crowd of mates or a clan together to play regularly it is very easy to lose entire days to the game!

Just finished SoA. I was rather disappointed, I have to say. I was expecting...more. But perhaps that's because I got a new computer and so was sitting there playing it for twelve-fourteen hours a day for a week, so it didn't seem as long as the first one. Still, I'm looking forward to ToB, as soon as I find money to buy it.
On another note, why can't all games have as beautiful graphics as the Myst and Riven games? What is Cyan doing right that everyone else hasn't gotten yet?

Making games that don't have much interaction.

I got myst riven and Exile for Christmas, on DVDs.
I cheated a bit mroe than I should have on the first two, but I've played them before, but ruined the disks.
The thing is I finished all three in 5 days.
Exile is easy.

Funny, It took me about 3 months to finish SoA.

Did you explore *every* *single* *place* though?

Aye, that's the thing, I didn't do all of the side quests. I've gone back now and am doing that, which will no doubt satisfy me. Just at the time it was a little bit of a letdown.
There's a fair amount of interaction in Riven, as compared to Myst anyway. But I still think someone could make a game with as much space and interactivity as BG with the same beautiful graphics as Riven. At least make people look a little less like they're made out of wooden blocks. That's my biggest complaint with video games in general, though computer games are a little better about it.

Wooden blocks? What do 'ya mean wooden blocks? No decent game I've ever played makes people look like wooden blocks. The only games that do that are those stupid 3D-animation games that everybody's obsessed with now.

By the way, when you're playing Shadows of Amn, be sure to look around Athkatla pretty thoroughly because like half of the side stuff is in there (to say nothing of NPCs). It's not like in Baldur's Gate with the bring me this ring, fetch me that book, threaten this dude so he'll stop harassing me type stuff either. *Sighs nostalgically*

One piece of advice though; Do NOT, Under ANY Circumstances, Give The Sculptor REAL Illithium.

Why not? I did, worked out fine. He was happy, temple was happy, I didn't have to pay too much for it. Where's the harm? The one time I gave him the false illithium he figured it out, got all mad and wouldn't do it.

I've never given him real illithium.

If you're looking around, two of the hardest battles in the game are in athkatla:
the place on the bridge district that you can enter if you have a rogue stone, and...
khangaxx the demilich.

I thinks its time i updated myself. I am still in 4 to 5 D&D things, a battleTech thing, and DMing a D&D thing. I could call these all canpagns (however you spell it) but I can't be botherd. Oh and I have played NVN demo, it only just works on my computer so you can understand me not purchesing the game, also its points system is really stupid.

Yeah, Khangaxx is evil.. .in every sense of the word. I think I hate "Time Stop" above all other spells in the world. Although "Maze" is a close second.

The reason you don't give him real Illithium is that you can use it to improve the Mace of Disruption so that it does more damage and makes you immune to Level Drain, that's why! Plus the Temple is actually happier with the misshapen lump because the Head Priest dude thinks it's more humble for the sculpture to be tarnished, and he doesn't like What's-His-Bucket anyway, think's he's too arrogant or something.

Wow, okay, shows how much I know. I think I'll reconsider then next time I play.
By the by, where is Kangaxx's torso? Found his legs and arms and such, but in spite of breaking in to most of the houses in Athkatla and incurring the wrath of many, many homeowners, I still haven't found his other bits.

Well... have you been to the cult of the eyeless? one's in their... his head is in the place wehre he forms... O haven't played in a whiel though.

Obviously imprisonment is *much* worse than maze!

the way to defeat a demilich:
requires:
1 staff of the magi
1 crom faeyr
Any other +4 or higher weapons... (or is it +5)

First:
Cast deathward on everybody to protect from the demilich's howl.
Have your mage go in with spell trap and protection from abjuration and spell reflection and antyhing else that will prevent an imprisonment.
Once she's being fired at, send everyone else in.
Give at least 2 freedom scrolls to every magi, and to your main character.
Everyone attacks, some peopel will be used as bait for the imprisonments.
Repeat 20 times until you finally win.

Notes: The staff of the magi, the most powerful staff in the game, is found in the room in the bridge district taht requires a rogue stone to enter. (also very difficult)
This refers to the demilich in Watcher's keep in ToB.
Khangaxx is much harder. Why? Because during the time it takes for your character to get from the entrance up clsoe enough to melee with him, at least 5 imprisonments have already been fired.
Be afraid, patient, and persistent. It IS possible, contrary to the views you mae take after the first 10 tries. I've killed them both.
Khangaxx is also much harder because you have to kill him as a lich first, and then he immediately becomes a demilich... without giving you time to run.

How to kill any lich in the game.
Requires:
Daystar, the sword
Improved invisibility
Nondetection

This is always one of teh VERY first things I do in SoA every game, after getting about 1 level in athkatla.
1st: go to the inn in the gate district and find the secret door.
2nd: send your thief in with both spells, and go to the chest. IGNORE THE LICH. he will cast true sight. pick the lock on the chest... quickly... and grab daystar. leave, while he casts his spells, quickly. hopefully you're hasted(a very good idea)
Identify Daystar.
Get invisible again.
Go back in, get next to him, and use sunburst from daystar.
If he doesn't die from that, attack him. You will win.
The most damage I've ever done to a lich (or vampire) with daystar is 1053. Which will kill anything in the game. including melissan.

How to kill an the adamantine golem in Firkraag's lair in chapter 2 or 3:
Requires:
preferably the cloak of the stars(from the sun temple)
Definitely the throwing axe you can buy at the inn... I think it's plus four? Or do you get that at Nalia's keep? don't remember.
Just get your best fighter throwing that at it. keep everyone else back (be sure to kill the other goelms first. remember, he can't fit through the doorway, so jsut get out of range of attacks and gas clouds, and throw anything you've got at him.
wait.
