Lots of Italics ... are we still using clones of Jimster for male Italics or have we brought in newer technology?

Strange you should ask that, but we have been looking at ways of having the volunteers names show things like ribbons or mini badges, or just colours, depending on the volunteer teams they're in.
We've been discussing the idea that, like with the italics, it'll help people know that those answering questions about elements of the Guide have a hand/knowledge in it smiley - smiley

We've also been thinking about how to make a user's own name stand out in forums, so you can quickly scroll through to see what you've posted previously.

Not so easy to do on tablets or phones, and the overall use of those is steadily rising.

Interesting conversation.
As a student of McLuhan and the history of print technology
I find it fascinating that fonts are once again, and still, such
an integral part of the value we put on text communication.

For more information regarding the advent of 'Italics' (they
were developed in Italy of course) may I recommend a recent
novel by Robin Sloan which "..combines elements of fantasy,
mystery, friendship and adventure as a way of looking at the
modern conflict and transition between new technology (electronic)
and old (print books)."

Hmm... "Mystery, fantasy, friendship and adventure..."
How could you resist?
Oh and Google is a major character in the plot.

Well, there is (of course) a Reverse Italic font - but everyone would have to have it

>> still not replying to the message Pliny claims <<

Indeed! That one ongoing bug alone is sufficient to discourage
me from wanting to Plinify my h2g2 adventures. Life is already
quite complicated; one does not need to be constantly aware that
what one is told is nowhere the truth of the matter or to be left
unsure of one's bearings in the strange realms of cyberspace.
