>> We could just remove the bit saying which message you're replying to <<
That of course misses the whole point which is the ability
to copy and paste directly from the post being replied to.
(See quoted example bit above)
It ensures accurate quotation without fear of misquotation
or the evils of paraphrasing some half-absorbed remark.

Easy enough if you remember to copy before clicking the reply button
But here's another tiny little peeve: If I choose to work in the old alabasterd I can move back from my reply and check earlier posts and then move forward again and continue to write my reply. Apparently this is not possible in Pliny. When I move forward all that I have written is gone
But let me emphasize that this is only a tiny little peeve. Once you've expereinced it you find ways to w*rk around it

The easiest work around is to simply avoid Pliny
and stick with the Alabasterd I know and love.

I am a Classic stick-in-the-goo about goo, but I am having to use Pliny on my mobile. It's not all bad, and they have put a lot of work into it, particularly Pastey. What convinces me is that Pastey is also gooey and is really trying to incorporate the good bits about the Ripley skins. Which is not only the visuals.

Don't get me wrong. After a lifetime of being an alabasterd I have forced myself to giving Pliny a chance and I have grown quite fond of it

Normally I stick with the one true skin (Brunel - I can already see how this thread is going to turn out), but when I'm bored, I go exploring on the site for something new on Pliny, not especially sure why, but I always find something quickly on its blue and white

Call yourself an Alabaster fan, Pierce? I'm ashamed of you.
How can that bug ridden travesty of a skin possibly compete with the One True Portal?

I don't think Pliny wants his work to be wasted
Though on this front, I'm tempted to suggest that any mention of a non-Pliny skin outside of a "skin thread" (that really sounds unpleasant by the way) should be treated as an equivalent to Godwin's law

I'm happy for you to use whatever skin you find most comfortable.
But we're only developing new features for the new Pliny framework

Good to know that we're not going to end with headlines "h2g2 demands that users remove their own skins"

Bah! I just discovered another effect related to the issue Pierce and JWF were referring to about pliny not displaying the post you're actually replying to.
It also doesn't keep the thread subject title either.
Some threads change their titles as they progress. For example, I have a film journal and I change the title to whichever film I've last seen and any replies to it keep that title until the next film I've seen. Another example. I like to change the title to some threads just to see how long until someone notices and changes it back. (I did that on this thread when there was confusion regarding the date.)
This isn't an issue that can be fixed just by switching skins as the next pliny user will negate it.
Oh, well.

Yeah BG, the issues with the replying post is annoying to say the least. It's all in the APIs, which I may have said quite often "I'm getting around to replacing" It bugs the hell out of me to be honest

Welllll, as long as it bugs you more than me
No, really, Pastey, I'm sure it bugs me a lot less than it does you, so take your time for Bob's sake
