Bonnie, I've got to let go whilst I get out my crossbow, so please keep as steady as possible.

*takes crossbow out and slings the strap over her shoulder and grabs a handful of bolts charged with Freezing Death spell*

Let see if the Celtic Ring are any more reliable with these bolts.

*looks at smoke signals, wishes she could read them*

Carmel steers the little red wagon to the side of the trail and seems to be investigating something*

Golly, I think I've found a game trail and it seems to parallel the trail. It's too narrow for a horse, or even my little wagon, but I could ride one of the pugs along it.

*reads the new smoke signals*

The cavalry is coming, apparently, X. This should be good.

[X] Great. I just hope we don't get executed ...

*bow and arrows ready, looking at Gandalf to see if he is hearing or smelling anything unusual*

*looks at smoke signals*

Cavalry is coming? Are you sure? I thought it said it Designer Sale now on!

Ah, but whose cavalry? I'd hate to discover it was Lord Raglan and his cronies who had sent them.

*Serenely gazes over the badlands. Notes Dances With Jellos returning and catches his eye. Dances With Jellos shakes his head, indicating a false alarm. Jello Wolf nods his approval, then catches sight of the second signal. This one reads "Cavalcade coming". He shrugs, then makes a small motion with his spear to direct Dances With Jellos to get the war party ready. Dances With Jellos nods gravely and rides out of sight to the east.*

*Pierrot flys north and west, ahead of the group, zigzagging to cover the most territory. GL rides on with the group.

Up ahead the path forks to go around a very large mesa. The trail to the east appears to be more worn than the one to the west, but both go in the right general direction.*

I suggest taking the path to the west, since it is the road less travelled by and that should make all the difference.

We can but hope.

I'm about to disappear for a weeks holiday. Please assume that I am tagging along, continuing to make obscure references and not be very useful. Thankyou. I now return you to your regular posters

There must a theatre nearby a production of Cavalcade is being put on. I'm rather fond of a bit of Noel Coward.

Carmel Oh, I know, we could split up! That way the party that doesn't get ambushed can flank the attackers and we get them from both sides! I seem to recall a someone famous tried that in the Bad Lands once.

*Blue Bear wispers something in Carmel's ear*

Huh? Blue Bear thinks we should call the the split parties "Team Reno" and "Team Custer." He wants to be with Team Reno. And I don't see what he thinks is so funny!

*the pugs snigger*

[X] Okay, GL, let's go that way. [starts going that way]

*takes off to monitor the progress of both parties*

Sorry I wandered off, but I had to find Zeppo. He had cornered a rattle snake and I barely managed to staple it to death before it bit him.

I'm just a little confused now about who is sending off those smoke signals.

Carmel Looks at Zeppo's dead snake, thinks about the little game trail she wanted to follow alone, looks at the snake...*

*Blue Bear, who is never shocked by anything dogs do, takes over the reins and starts down the westward trail. Using soft baby-talk he gets much better results than Carmel does*

Blue Bear - Iddle pugs go for-ward. Dat's good, is good doggies. Now the puppies all turn...

custer? that sounds ominous...

*looks around at the badlands nervously*

Did you say custard, sea? We ate all the banana custard at the store.

*sitting up high on Bonnie, holding the reins in one hand, crossbow over her shoulder with a the other hand on her hip*
