Is Hati pronounced like haughty, or more like hatty?
That would affect your choices of words to rhyme
at the ends of the lines anyway...

I chose "Hatty" for my class assignment.
Her Name Was Hati Noir
I want to dance with Hati in the evening,
A hard shoe, my foot, with her light of step,
Under awning when the dawning sun has crept,
All I can think of is her future grieving.
My heart it aches with thought of me soon leaving,
For in the skills of pilots I am well adept,
I wait here in the rain where silver plane is kept,
And she, at home, with heart and lungs a-heaving,
I entrust with her the thoughts of my returning,
Hati, of the floral potted plantings,
Keeper of that fading wisp of menthol cigarette,
Keeper of the heart, my heart, for burning,
Keeper of those late night long fight rantings,
Hati, keeper of the things the mind won't soon forget.

I'm with Tac on that one... Never, ever been any good at all at poetry.

On the topic of poetry, I saw something odd today. It was a squirel that had frozen to death in the common squirel pose of sitting up on its hind legs with its paws out-streached. The thing was quite dead, and an icesicle was hanging from its nose, but it still looked as cute as ever. It made me think of the works of James Joyce.

I think squirrel is one of the main
ingredients in Kentucky Burgoo. If
you'd like to skin and clean the little
varmint, I could give you a burgoo recipe.
You may have to stretch the recipe by adding
chicken, since one little squirrel won't
have enough meat.

That's funny....I think.
Almost as funny as a minivan trying
to park in a space designed for a minicar.

I don't think the squirel would be safe to eat, as it died in West Orange. I don't eat anything from/in that town/city.

I ask politely. I say, "Good sir or madam, did these foodstuffs die horrible deaths on the streets of West Orange?"

Isn't death pretty horrible no matter
where it occurs? No, wait, it's unprovable
anyway, since nobody ever comes back after
death to tell what it was like.

Meanwhile, in Heaven...
"Did you get a chance to die in Toledo, Ohio? It was fantastic!"
