He was also the man behing "The Spying Game" or somesuch... Sort of a "Man from UNCLE" meets... well... I'm not sure really. Semi-live action, with four contestants in a UNCLE situation, and the best contestant won... something...
Oh, OK, I admit it. I don't remember.

Is that the one where the last living participant (obviously) wins? I dimly remember somesuch SciFi film but other than the bad clothing I have little knowledge.

Yup. But I'm certain Franklyn was the front-man, and it was late 1970s, yet there are no possible candidates in the IMDB database.

It may have been a television MOW (movie of the week) or was it an actual series? Either way, would IMDB have it then?
*Remembers bad 'futuristic' sets, autos, and costumes.*

Nope, I remember bad sets and costumes, but they weren't particularly "futuristic". Franklyn was "the controller", taking a team of "new agents" out into "the field"... (Lots of "quotes" )
Much sitting around in the back of a van while they "drove" between locations (actually, while the set was changed outside) and spy-themed games at each location. It was ITV, mid-to-late 1970s, and ran for at least one full series. Dreadful, but compelling...
I just find it a little disturbing that it has been omitted from IMDB.

Wasn't WF also the voice behind the dragon in the *well known mouthwash* adverts?
"Helllo-ooo"
No, can't express it phonetically!

Don't think so - that sounded like Leslie Phillips to me.

I don't know if Leslie Phillips voiced Clifford the Dragon saying 'hellooo' in those ads, but I was always sure that the main voiveover was dear old Willie Rushton.

William Franklyn fans can regularly find him reading the quotations on Radio 4's 'Quote, Unquote', should they so wish.
Can anyone tell me if it was Franklyn who voiced DM in the pilot episode of 'Dangermouse', though? It certainly sounds like him.
Key: Complain about this post
