Witty, you are certainly welcome to carpool with me. I'll lay in a stock of various cd's to listen to and be happy to have the company. I've not looked at a map to find an optimal route from the Garden State to the Show me state, but I imagine that we can come up with something

Thanks, Marv. I was hoping to find somewhere that our paths would converge, so that we could meet up and travel the remaining distance in tandem. It seems a little silly for either of us to travel directly north or south to meet up.

I like that idea for the accommodation. Now I just have to worry about my plane tickets.

Witty, if you would like to drop me an email to marv white gmail com with the origin city to work from I can then start looking at routes. As I learn the goegraphy of the East better, I can look for a good way to get to MO that will coincide for the both of us.

I'm going to Canada afterwards, certainly. I may end up getting two sets of return tickets (1 uk - Toronto, 1 Toronto - Springfield) to save money compared to the cost of a multiple-destination flight.

I think the Teuchters are planning to fly into DFW and then rent a car and drive up. That will let them sightsee on their own if they want to.

Madame President and friends:
I think it's about time I drag my unsociable butt out of the valley, and thusly, I presume to invite myself to your gathering.
Hell, I reckon y'all might need another willing pair of hands at the bobbecue.
I promise not to talk dirty or pull down my pants.

YeeHaw! That's great news, Xantief. You're in California, right? Have you ever been to these parts? If you have, just forget all about it. You'll have more fun this time. Promise.

I am having a bit or trouble locating a musical group willing to play on a holiday that I can also afford. We may wind up with fiddles, banjos and spoons.

Air guitar?
Personally, and my prejudices show, no bobbacue is complete without CCR. Maybe just a lil' bit o' Hank Williams...
(hollow logs and didjeridoos...)

Assuming I'm able to make it I could play actual guitar... although I'd have to borrow one when I get there as I've heard too many horror stories about guitars being damaged on long haul flights to want to bring my own.
I don't know any Hillbilly songs (except a few bars of duelling banjos) but I have a decent repetoire.

If we have to do canned music, I have a lot of good choices. And some regional things.
Mr. D, I don't have a guitar. But I'm sure I can find one.

Whoohoo! My boss just okayed my taking off that week!
Music... what about kazoos for everybody? And a washboard for percussion. Seriously, though, got any local teenagers with talent that want some exposure?

I'm not sure, Witty. I located a couple who do bluegrass. But I've never actually heard them. The problem is that everyone wants the holiday off for their own picnics. We'll survive with canned music, but a live group would be more fun.
If David B is able to come, he has promised to sing for us. And I'll have Lady C bring her hammered dulcimer. And the chef has a good voice if I remember correctly. There is quite a bit of musical talent in my family, but unfortunately I didn't inherit any of it.
Lady C is going to help me put everything together. We'll think of something entertaining.

Darlin' Sis, I do not own a hammered dulcimer. Mine is a mountain dulcimer and I must practice a bunch before I will subject others to my musical inability...................Unfortuantely, I do not know anyone who is musically talented. Have you thought to ask Marty? She may know someone.
I have a lot of good music that I think everyone might like. Several good Celtic albums, folk music from the 60s, and some current country western and blue grass. I also have some light classical for those who do not like country. I do not, however have ANY Billy Joel!!!!
