Lady C, you truly are a Lady.
Sorry H, I don't remember the Limelighters. Was never big on folk music.

Thank you, Taralome. Actually, like Hyp, I have never actually met any Barry Manilow fans either. And Billy Joel does have a huge following. I don't have any of his music though.
The Limelighters were a folk group who toured college campuses and some of the clubs in the US in the early 60s. And yes, it was the Limelighters we went to see. Mother would have had a fit, had she known how risque' their music was. (Nothing compared to the rap today, but it was risque' for a more innocent time.)
They actually came to campus twice while I was there and the Smothers Brothers were there once.
I loved folk music then and still listen to it. The closest thing in country to folk is Blue Grass and I like good Blue Grass too. Notice I said "good blue grass".

I wanna go 42!!!! ^_^ All I have ta do is beg and plead with my Mom to let me go on Teh Fourth of July. ^_^ (I live in teh States, so we will be celebrating.) I have a question though:
1. Will I (being under teh legal drinking age) be allowed to come a nd participate, and have fun with ya'lls? T.T *would be sad if this is teh case*
2. Can I bring friends who don't belong to H2G2 (but love everything about it)
The End ^_^

Hi LlamaHiccupHitchiker. It's nice to meet you.
To answer your questions about the meet - all h2g2 researchers are welcome, regardless of age. However, the distances necessary to travel to get here will make it difficult for our younger researchers.
Getting permision to spend time with a bunch of strangers is going to be tricky for younger researchers. As a mother, I would be very concerned about a situation like this. I know you'd be safe, but your folks aren't going to know that.
There will be lots of nonalcoholic beverages available. Not everyone of legal age is going to want to drink, either.
I'm not sure where you live or how old you are, so it's dificult for me to know if it would be practical for you to try to come or not. Perhaps the best solution, if you're close enough, would be to ask one or both of your parents to bring you and your friends.

Maybe all the Barry Manilow fans have been isolated from the rest of society.

From my own, somewhat isolated, perspective, I haven't met any either. They are definitely an underground phenomenon, if they really exist. Do they have a website? Does anyone want to look for it?

Perhaps they're all in New York in the basement of the Copacabana - hiding from Mandy.

Hypatia Posted Jan 31, 2006
It sounds like it's settled then - no Barry Manilow at the meet.

Lady Chattingly Posted Jan 31, 2006
I will bring some of the music I love. It might be wise for some of the rest of you to do the same. That way we would have a variety of CDs from which to choose.

We could have a "come up with the most violent song title" contest.
Hummmmmmmm. Do we want games of some sort? Sack races? Pull My Finger? Horseshoes? That sort of thing?
Hillbilly Meet
Xantief Posted Feb 1, 2006
I could brew up some chili, after which Pull My Finger is indeed a probability...

I'll not enter as there's a very real chance I'd win without even trying.
(I'd also probably win "most disgusting song title" and "most weird song title")

Mr D, I would give you a run for the money I think.
A great way for younger researchers to join in a meet is to have their parents make the trip with them!

"brew up some chili" for the 4th of July? Do you have any idea how hot the Ozarks are in July????
You could probably get the same effect with baked beans........

Xantief Posted Feb 1, 2006
LadyC,
It's not the heat, it's the humidity...
O'course, were it real 'Wick Fowler' Texas chili, it wouldn't have the toot-fruit in it. But either way, it's designed to make the consumer sweat. I enjoy 95-100-degree summer weather in CA, and regard sweating as a good thing...only if the ambient humidity allows the sweat to evaporate.
