You realize that if it stays this dry we won't be allowed to shoot off fireworks. If that happens we could take everyone to Lambert Park for the professional show.

What does Raymond's sausage taste like? Does he use sage in it? And how hot is it?
Presidential Meet Update
Lady Chattingly Posted Jan 21, 2006
Yes, he uses sage in it and some black pepper. Sometimes it is hotter than others, but it is very lean.
Would we be safe driving to Lambert Park after an afternoon of and whatever else?????

We would have to have designated drivers, that's for sure. And the crowds there are worse every year. If it's too dry, I suppose they might cancel that too. Fireworks on our own would be a lot more fun.

Are you allowed to shoot them in town? We can out here, but each community has its own rules about them.
The little boys love fireworks!!!

Right now S-I-L says he is coming. He's tired of the July fourth scene out here.............

Hypatia Posted Jan 21, 2006
S-I-L had better come or I'll be totally annoyed.

Or, if we're all sober enough, we can have the picnic at mine and go to the cousin's for foreworks. They have a great spot for them.

Hypatia Posted Jan 21, 2006
That's the thing about the London meets. All that public transportation. You can party hearty and not have to worry about driving home.

Lady Chattingly Posted Jan 21, 2006
That sounds like a good plan..........we'll need to lay in a big supply of paper goods so there will be minimal washing up afterwards.

Lady Chattingly Posted Jan 21, 2006
Maybe we should hire a hayrack for the trek over to the cousins.

Hypatia Posted Jan 21, 2006
It's too early to make definite plans since we don't know how many people will be coming. As the hostess, I'll have to stay sober. So I can drive. And Cousin Dick never drinks more than one glass of wine. But, I think I have enough room in my back yard for fireworks, don't you? That would be so much easier than having to go someplace else.

Lady Chattingly Posted Jan 21, 2006
You have a nice backyard for fireworks. Your neighbors to the south will probably enjoy them too. However, there won't be any dueling roman candles at your place.
I do not plan to get sh**faced either, but about two drinks puts me beyond the legal limit.

Please let me know what you want me to bring. I can tote along all of the paper goods if you like.
Mr M was threatening a business trip that week, but he was just teasing me. If he does bag out on me, I'll just hitch a ride with Marv.

Hey, Hyp, I'm sorry if I've already missed the discussion about this, but what's the plan with accommodation? If we're to find our own hotel rooms do you have recommendations?
Presidential Meet Update
Hypatia Posted Jan 22, 2006
Bagpuss, as soon as I know who is coming and when, I can call around for the best deal on rooms. Several of the national chains are in Joplin. The motels/hotels are all grouped together in an area about 15 minutes from my house.
I can put some of you up at my house, but if there is a large turnout, the best thing to do would be reserve a block of rooms at one of the motels so everyone will be together. That will make it easier to arrange rides for everyone. The US folks will be driving for the most part. It would be cheaper, too. But I'll have to have an idea of how many are coming before I can do that.
Folks, I'm in the process of creating an actual Meet entry where I can add attendees to a proper list. I want to link to it my Alabaster House Journal in this week. So it will have to be finished soon. And when it's ready, I'll pop back here and post the link as well.

Witty, I already have a promised donation of napkins (which may or may not materialize). I thought I'd get the Solo plates/cups/bowls in red, white and blue. I don't buy styrofoam. I hate it. It doesn't break down in the landfills. Last time I had the July 4th picnic at my place, I bought the cute coated paper plates with a patiotic design. They may work in polite society, but they just don't hold up well enough for Hillbillies.
I hope Mr. Moniker is able to come. But, if not, Marv will make you a great travelling companion.

Well, I don't need but a moment's notice to acquire what we need. Most importantly, it should be non-perishable, since it will be two days hard driving for us. And we were planning on selecting one of those nearby motels, so count us in for that.
