I think it's very important for Muslims in particular to speak out. Unfortunately, an act like this brings irrational anger to the hearts of many. Since it appears clear that fanatical Muslims did this, and that their willingness to die suggest their religious beliefs supported their actions, the vast majority of Muslims who are horrified and disgusted by this must be certain they are heard!!
Thanks for your support!

Thanks for your support! Everyone is as astonished and confused as you are. These were the acts of sick people. They are serving to unite the people of the world, the vast majority of whom are as disgusted as you and I. As an American, I want to repeat what has already been said by several others... Thank you ALL for your kind thoughts and prayers. When someone you love dies, it takes the support of your friends and family to help you cope with the loss and move on with your life. We in the US need a LOT of friends and a HUGE family to provide us with this support. You and the other Researchers here are helping to do just that. Thanks.

Perhaps as well as our condolences to the American people, we should be sending condolences to other than fanatic Muslims as well. The fear is that they will all be tarred with the same brush, and most don't deserve this. As a community we really have to rally around our Muslim members - they need our support during these times, too. Until now it never mattered what religion you followed, or didn't follow in h2g2, and we have to be sure that continues - in our hearts and minds, as well as our posts. Tolerance has to begin here.

president bush has gone on record saying very much the same thing, in fewer words. AOL has been posting websites for tolerance groups, including the arab-american antidefamation league.
to all of us hurt or killed in this terrible tradgedy. many of the dead and wounded are not U.S. citizens. They need our condolences, as well.
mostly, for the children, and for those caught up in this, through no fault of their own. for our arab and muslim friends.

I spent five and half years in a Arab country. Durring those years,I made many friends who were Muslim. They were not any different than my Christain friends. We went everywhere together ,the subject of relegion never came up. I spent many hours in their homes, and for most part ,I was treated as family or as a close friend. To put a label on someone because of thier relegion, race, color, and upbringing is wrong. There are evil people in all races, relegion, and countries. To say someone is evil be cause he may be different than you,is to say that everyone but yourself is that way, because no two people are alike.

Religion has nothing to do with this--it's an excuse that these criminals are hiding behind to gain what they really want, which is power and control. They promise a heaven filled with all luxuries and willing virgins to those who have spent much of their lives living in war-torn hardship. There is a whole generation of people in Afghanistan (among other countries) who have spent their ENTIRE lives as refugees from war. This fosters an "I have nothing to lose" mentality that then lends itself to the type of action we saw last week in the US. None of this is a new occurence in a lot of places--not on this scale perhaps, but acts of violence towards innocent people is not novel.
We need to be sure to separate the religion from the acts. Just as every Christian person doesn't bomb women's clinics, every Muslim doesn't advocate this type of religious terror.

In the Name of God, Most Beneficient, Most Merciful
I am sure that God Will find a befiting punishment for the kind of evil that was visited on 11th; and I pray that may those of us remaining alive and standing on earth, refuse to used in more evil deeds. I pray for America so that no more evil viits them or emanates from them; I pray for the Mmiddle east, that may they find peace, true peace; I pray for me and I pray for you. After praying I will do something to try and make this world a better place. I refuse to stand by and just watch again. I also urge each and everyone of us reading this to do the same. WE can make that difference!
May the peace of God be upon all of you!
Amen

Even now, the enormity of this unspeakable violence hasn't sunk in.
To all my American friends, and to those who grieve: my deepest sympathy.
To the murderers and their associates: if Allah has not already judged you and condemned you never again to speak His Name or look upon His face, He soon will.
To the United States: do what you must -- few will not support you. But do it always in the solemnity of Justice. If you respond in Hate, then you become little better than your enemies.
To my Muslim friends in Turkey and elsewhere: I know this is not Islam, but an affront to Islam.

Please bear with me.....
There are names I would like to share because today in the US we are wearing white ribbons of rememberance and I am in Texas, far from home, surrounded by people who don't remember NY or the people I grew up with.
First, my prayers and hopes:
John Tierney, Fireman, my cousin, who despite being physically exhausted volunteered for additonal 12 hour shifts and is still there at "ground zero". Come home safe, Johnny.
Billy Boltje, my best buddy, Fire Rescue 4, who is still there struggling to face the unbearable. You are my hero. Please come home safely.
In memory:
Brian Hickey, Captain of Fire Rescue 4, who we all grew up with, and who died using his body to shield a woman during one of the tower collapses. Billy found him and carried his body out of the rubble.
These are but a few names out of thousands. My heart goes out to all who lost people they cared about..
My favorite quote comes from a truck driver hauling debris from the site. I wish I remembered his name: "They hit the World Trade center, they hit the Pentagon, but they missed America."
Be strong America; don't give in to easy anger and hate. Be what you were meant to be: a beacon of hope, justice, and freedom in the world.
