I would have expected no less of the people who invented wooden cannons.
researching, Nite Owl. (They're watching us. )

Sometime in the next 18 hours, the new site will go live, replacing this one.
Good luck to us all - alpha station is no more, long live the Mariposa!

Hi all. You've probably noticed that they're planning on closing down hootoo, and while the game's not been moving forward lately, I for one want to keep what we've spent countless hours creating. If they end up removing all the pages entirely, we might want to think about saving as much as we can.

Silly old Romulans, wanting to shut us down because we have too much fun...
At the moment, we're trying to save it over at http://groups.google.com/group/h2g2communityconsortium - though we've not quite decided whether it's the People's Front of h2g2 or the h2g2 People's Front So all is not yet lost!
But archiving it sounds like a good idea anyway. We can also start another group like that to keep the game going offsite, if need be, until h2g2 has a new home.

That's a good thought, folks. I'm not technical enough to know what the best way would be to save all this.
I'm down with a passing 'flu bug, and having family complications, so I'm not around that much this week, but I'll check in to see how it's going.

Gnomon is writing a script to save certain threads, perhaps he'll let us borrow it?
I hope you're feeling better soon.

Hey, great - good for Gnomon. If there's a way to save our cybernovel, this would be cool.
Good wishes gratefully acknowledged. I'm weak, and feel like an idiot for catching my first case of anything in about two years. (I had a flu shot, so this bug was sneaky.)

Ok, so the rpg is pretty much dead in the water at the moment, but that doesn't mean it can't be revived.
So we need to think about what happens if the site really goes belly-up or becomes unusable because of Barlesque
Shall I set up a google group (it can be invitation only) so we can continue it offsite, if need be?
Beta Advertising Thread***
Dmitri Gheorgheni, Post Editor Posted Feb 7, 2011
I dunno. I might be able to learn that..I might be technologically overtaxed...
What does anyone think?
I *was* planning to take the web pages relating to the rpg and repost them on a blogspace, just so everybody could have copies.
The real question would be, is there a way to preserve those 100,000 or so posts?

I fear I'm already quite frustrated about google groups, I wouldn't want to have any longer conversation there. I always have to use 2 windows, one to write and one to read and both don't show new posts properly.

Malabarista - now with added pony Posted Feb 7, 2011
Yes, the system for showing new posts does lag a bit. Maybe a yahoo group, then, I'll go see how they handle that...

Malabarista - now with added pony Posted Feb 21, 2011
I've looked at different free groups - the google one does seem the most reasonable because we could just do it by making a new gmail account each and using that to notify us of new posts. If we want to take it offsite and revive it at all, that is.
Ben was just talking about "our more long running threads, some of which are
more or less text-based MUSHs (Multi-User Shared Hallucinations)"
Think we qualify?
