Happy birfday to Elektra! She's 5758 today, or almost as old as the planet... (I am older, so I can laugh at you youngsters.)

That's why my calendar keeps beeping at me!
All the best and many more, Elektra It's great to have you around, even if you're only lurking.

Thanks Mala, I write occaisionally. But as I'm so close to retirement I need to conserve my energies.

Thanks Tav. Sorry your bf is gone. That is sad. Hope you had a good time while he was visiting.

Happy birthday, Elektra, and many happy returns!
On a more sober note, though - I just heard on the news that Brisbane is being evacuated because of floods. That's where Kyra lives...

Oh gosh, I'm sorry to hear that. We'll be pressing our thumbs for her. Let us know if you hear anything. We had a couple of nice neighbours who moved back to OZ, I'm going to try to email them, but I believe that they are in a different part of Australia.

12 hours ago, she was saying she's glad she's growing gills...

Missed her by about an hour yesterday, and I think she was online just before I got here tonight - I saw her 'eyes'.
Anyway, she posted 20 hours ago and said she was okay. Her house is in a higher part of Brisbane, so she doesn't think she'll be be flooded. She said she'd try to keep me posted, but she does expect to lose power at some point...

Well, that very picture featured in this week's "QI". For those that don't know it, it's a witty BBC quiz about things you *think* you know - and which most of the time turn out to be wrong...
Apparently, these were weapons of war, not Goth, alas, but Japanese - a pre-radar listening device to detect the approach of enemy aircraft.
Makes you wonder, though, if the QI editors and researchers keep an eye on what's going on on Hootoo...
