Aye, that we do. We make it sound gracious by calling it freemantling, to make it sound as if we are pirates of a higher sensibility.

this crew is indeed the finest of the trade
not many captains can brag about a crew skilled with reading, writing - and even poetring

Actually, the poetring gives us a competitive edge over other pirate crews. It's part of our defensive arsenal. Many a pirate ship has come near enough to menace us, and then withdrawn apace when it heard our poetry.

*Especially* Vogons. Even if they are coming at us on a tropical beach with delicious drinks in their hands...

Writing poetry is the one thing that I just *know* that I cannot do. Not even badly. Especially not badly. If I wrote anything poetic it would be just plain pants. To say I wrote poetry badly would be tantamount to praising it.
Maybe I could get away with some haiku though....

We're coming, fleeting, by night and by day
The pirates will come to take you away
to plunder and pillage, sequester and steal
And begone before the Blood can congeal.
(there's almost a pun in there and everything...)
