Depends how many of you get married...

Maybe I should have enough husbands that they *can* realistically cater to my every whim and support me financially.

How dull though, all those men and not a single one who *really* wants to be there. Think I'll stick with my merry men and if I'm lucky my Ginge as well smiley - smiley

It's tricky to get men who can live with the idea of being suppliers of the good stuff of life, but not expect much in return. Maybe we'll find out, though, as the current college population is likely to turn out more female graduates than male. The same is true for graduate schools. Sooner or later, education-sensitive fields will have to have more women than men in them, so realistically how would men be able to gather enough extra resources to cater to wives/girlfriends better than they can cater to themselves? This trend has already played out in some minority populations in the U.S. How many of us would like it to be the norm *everywhere?* Just wondering.

I speak as one who, in the (dim and distant) past, has kept a man in a life style way above that which he could have enjoyed if he relied on his own income.

It ended badly.

That sort of thing has doomed rather a lot of relationships, from what I gather, but what does it say about the human race when men have supported women for so many centuries? Can the dynamics be changed? Can the basic interrelational contract be renogiated so that it benefits both parties? I hear that couples in their twenties or thirties are far more likely to have equalized their roles than their parents or grandparents would have.

I speak as one who, in the (dim and distant) past, has kept a woman in a life style way above that which she could have enjoyed if she relied on her own income - no strings attached, no questions asked. in fact absolutely nothing said about it at any time

when she inherited a small fortune years later she had the chance to somehow even the score, but she insisted this was her money and her money only and not something she wanted to share with me

this came as a bit of surprise but i never mentioned anything about that either. how could i? if my words ever sank in it would probably render her totally embarrassed and i wouldn't want that to happen

Dear Pierce! You sound so charming, a true 'gentleman'. Maybe in years to come, this lady will realise the kind way you treated her.

Oh dear, but is sad sometimes isn't it? Money can cause problems within relationships. In my case the rotter in question was eventually arrested, charged and sentenced for offences such as fraud, deception and theft, from me. He wanted MORE than I was happily prepared to give him.

It has made me question any relationship where the attraction seems to be money. Cynical I suppose. smiley - sadface

Friendship should not be based on financial status - it should be about whether people have things in common - even if it is only a sense of humour.

smiley - coffee anyone? We could stick some rum in it if we need the smiley - pirate touch this morning...smiley - evilgrin

"It has made me question any relationship where the attraction seems to be money"

this is the exact reason why i never tell people how many millions i won in the lottery smiley - whistle

i do however frequently use this pick-up-line: "actually i'm not as tall as i look, i'm just sitting on my wallet" smiley - biggrin

- - -

seriously though, i'm sorry to hear about that failed relationship of yours smiley - hug

the relationship i was in ended for completely different reasons. money never became an issue and we are the bestest of friends to this very day. after all we are mother and father to three beautiful children so we still have something in common

Money; never had any. The bestest girlfriend I had didn't ask for a penny.

I've got an internet Italian girlfriend who is a millionare; but I would never ask for anything.
