Hello

1. Percussion/drumkit/drums - whatever sounds best. I sing very badly, but I can, and have. My voice isn't soprano or alto or tenor or bass, it's sort of in the middle, which is a problem.

2. Beethoven, Dvorak, Bach, Pachelbel, as well as synthesiser music

3. Erm....this sounds like the sort of question that is meant to have a good answer. I don't know what to say.

Hi,

I´m a drummer first and a guitarist second.....I play drums in a number of bands including: "Rufuz" a heavy rock band([URL removed by moderator]), and "Búálfarnir" a folk-music band (basically irish drinking songs) and a jazz band that hasn´t been named yet....I play guitar at party´s....I can´t really sing (well)...As you can see ,from all the different bands I play with, I listen to all kinds of music...my favorites being the Dave Matthews Band, Dream Theater, Miles Davis, Richard Wagner,Pearl Jam, Beethoven, System of a Down, Black Sabbath, Roni Size, Louis Armstrong, Soundgarden and many more! All music is good music....by the way I live in a fishing village in Iceland that has an incredibly active music scene.....

Miranda (Make tea! Yes, Cissdur, it's still me)

I definitely have a lasting intrerest in music, as I am a conservatory student.

1. I play the cello. Sometimes I also sing in choirs. And I play the guitar to myself.
2.Being a cellist I am mostly into classical music, though I have occationally done other things, such as goth rock.
3.I´ll think of something.

Hopelessly Paranoid

1. Guitar and (more successfully) bass guitar (in band now). Can carry a tune. Can drop a tune.

2. Lots of things. Typical alternative stuff, lil bit of nice guitary stuff, little bit of souly stuff, little bit of funny stuff. My most controversial CDs are by Aztec Camera and Hootie and the Blowfish... so I'm not particularly extravagant

3. Money please. Lots and lots of money.... oh, and the sense of well being and appreciation that you can only get from being a MuG (in case you were serious...)

Enjoy smiley - smiley

I'm a jazz and funk drummer and i currently play with a jazz quartet, school jazz band, three funk combos, and ever since June 8, 2001, I have become the opening act for a local ska group with really catchy songs, and also the opening act for a jam band, so to speak. But the only thing I do when I open for them is recite beatnik poetry with a colleague of mine. We call ourselves, "Dissipated Aristocracy." It's awesome, in every true respect and defintion of the word.

In an attempt to become more musical I've taken up the bass as well, and am now into my third month of lessons, and loving it. Thankfully I had taken some composition lessons a few years back, so that I was able to read music and even write some of my own music for the bass.

My all-time favorite composer is Bach (I've got this really hoopy Baroque fetish), but I really dig the stuff Wendy Carlos has synthesized over the years as well. The most musical band I've ever heard is the Beatles, so they're up there on the list of my favorite bands. Also on that list: Led Zeppelin, the Jimi Hendrix Experience (Mitch Mitchell is the man), Cream...I'm into that bluesy-rock sound.

I'm not too sure as to what this Guild is really all about. I'm assuming it's a place where musicians can have conversations and learn about other musicians. I'm for that. And if that's what you're for as well, then i guess we have a lot in common.

Welcome, Yossarian. I've added you to the Musician Guild's membership roster. "Dissipated Aristocracy" is a wonderfully deep name. A little hard to fit on a short marquee, though. smiley - winkeye

You've got the right general idea about the Guild. Mostly, it's a resource for writing and reading about music. It has a lot of potential to grow into something more, but right now it's a pretty basic community. You get out of it pretty much what you put in.

Here are the usual links I like to give new members:

Cissdur

I would like to join too.
I play the violin. Actually, I am just starting to try to make a living of it. Naturally I have a very soft spot for string music in general and violin and string qaurtet music in particular. The soft spot also includes quite a variety of orchestral music and I do not exclude so called classical music from the 20th century either.
I enjoy reading the entries on all kinds of classical music related topics.

Welcome to h2g2, Cissdur. And welcome to the Musicians Guild. I've already added you to our membership roster.

It's marvelous to have another musician actually making a living from their talent. Welcome to the group.

If you see the post just above yours, you'll find some links to follow. We have quite a few fans of classical music here, and so there should be a good variety of entries on topics you like in our Directory.

Colin the Goldfish

I'd love to join the Guild

I play Piano, Violin and guitar. I also trained as a harpsichord maker and piano and harpsichord restorer.

I like a bit of everything from most genres of music. My classical favourites being Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Mendelsonn. Also Jazz. blues and any bluesy rock.

I would like to contribute what I can. Perhaps a more comprehensive section on the Harpsichord?

Roja Vemikin

Hey all, 22 yr old composer from the colonies.. Although I "play" 7 or so instruments (and i use the word play loosely), compose (working on my 1st symphony, the 1st movement was just completed after a year and a half of work), and attempt to sing, i really am nothing more than a glorified drummer... I just have this thing for rhythyms hence drums and bass guitar are by far my best instruments. To desribe my musical influence as eclectic would be an understatement. I can come home from work and sit and listen to Greig, Beethoven, and Holtz to unwind and an hour later you can find me playin a bass line to a tupac shakur track. I grew up on classic rock, and site the Beatles as my favorite band of all time. My affection for rock has always stayed with me, however my latest endeavor has been writing club trance and house tracks. (someone recently bought a synth and turntables). I am a huge h2g2 fan and stumbled across this site accidently this morning and am totally hooked. I very rarely get to speak to people about all types of music and writing and see this as a wonderful oportunity to share my views (as warped as they may be) with others that have common interests... Fell free to drop me a line I'll be around i love this site.. Have a great trip!!!!!!

Nobody Particular

Hullo! My name is Nobody Particular. I would love to be a member of musicians guild. I was originally invited here by Bassman a while back.

I play guitar (electric and accoustic) bass guitar, upright bass, and I do sing a little.

My favourite genre of music is punk rock. I am a big fan of Green Day and a few other bands of the like (see my space). I do enjoy a lot of classical and jazz as well as rock and roll.

I also write my own music. It is all primarily instrumental. Nothing to really rave about. All done on a four-track recorder in my bedroom. I plan to upgrade soon.

I am basically looking for a cool place to be with other musicians at.

And I do know a little GuideML.

Thanks!

King Lerxst -Keeper of Small, Sharp, Pieces of Flint

Hi. I'd like to become a MuG if that's ok with everyone here? I'm a self-taught guitarist and have been playing for over 12 years. I love to play tunes from Gordon Lightfoot, Dylan, Cohen, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Beck and a ton of other artists. I have a 4-track and have dabbled with it a bit but I prefer playing around the campfire. Right now I'm heavily into Mike Keneally (saw him in NYC a few weeks ago). I'd like to be able to converse with other musicians/music lovers, which is why I'm applying for MuG'ship. Let's talk about MK, Crimson, Belew, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis...I have a huge list of favorites. smiley - smiley
Oh, and I'll be wanting to ask some of you about workstations soon...as I'll hopefully be purchasing one soon.

Catwoman

Hello MUGs,

1. I play the drums (does this still count as being a musician?) I'm also learning the guitar (6-string electric) and passed my Grade 1 Piano exams (but that was nearly 20 years ago). I spent around 3 years in Manchester (UK) drumming in various bands, but don't play much these days. I listen to music much more than I play, ie as often as possible.

2. Favourite music - I've just written entries on The Wedding Present and Buzzcocks but I'm also a big fan of, well, lots of stuff, eg Tears for Fears, Art of Noise (excellent Claude Debussey CD), Cud, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Johann Strauss, John Williams (yup, I'm a sci-fi fan), Blur, Morcheeba, Adam and the Antz, Propellorheads. Just don't ask me to pick a favourite. Current most popular play: Tomcats Screaming Outside by Roland Orzabal.

3. Until I explore more fully I don't think there's anything I could request from MUGs, but I may get back to you on that...

If you think I could be of assistance then I'd be glad to help out maintaining the pages. I've not got much GuideML experience, but I'm learning.
