Pander, Champion of Lost Causes (17+25)+7*0 = 42

1) I play Trumpet, F Horn, Baritone Horn and occasionally Tuba when I'm drunk

2) My favorite bands are No Doubt, Barenaked Ladies and Everclear. I listen to Alt. Rock mainly but appreciate every type of music except Rap, which probably doesn't count as music anyway.

C) I don't really expect anything but fellowship. (and a million dollars MUHAhaHAhaHA!?!)

Cooper the Pacifist Poet

I play bassoon, sax, marginally guitar, electric bass, harmonica, and woodflutes.

I compose music. Basically anything from Baroque to funk is in my repertoire. I'm the principal and founder of Silver Chicken Music.

I sing bass/baritone.

My favourite composer would have to be Tchaikovsky (same birthday). I like the Beatles, Weezer, Sublime, some Elgar, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, and pretty much anyone else that doesn't have idiotic lyrics or simple-minded music.

I always like to meet other musicians. Also, I'm looking for jazz performance possibilities on sax in the San Antonio, Texas area.

Congrats to both Pander and Cooper! I've accepted you both into the Musicians Guild. smiley - smiley

Pander:

a) I'll bet a lot of people play Tuba while drunk. Sadly, I only get drunk and don't own a tuba. Otherwise, who knows! smiley - winkeye

b) Barenakes Ladies is one of my favorites! Your other choices are in my vein of taste also. But I have to disagree with you on rap. It is a form of music, similar to the way that drum corps count as musical teams. Melodies are not required!

c) No, I don't have a million dollars. Take your evil laugh elsewhere. smiley - biggrin

Cooper:

I don't think I know any other woodwind *and* guitar players, *plus* you sing baritone. It's an interesting mix.

Tchaikovsky is definitely a favorite classical composer about here. Joanna and many others love Tchaikovsky best of all. And I'm with you on the Beatles, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan... In short, you have good taste. smiley - winkeye

I don't know if we have anyone else from San Antonio. We're rather spread out across the planet, I'm afraid. I remember how great the music scene was in Austin when I lived there, though. Do you feel like moving a short distance? smiley - erm

I checked your homepage, and you have an eclectic composition list as well. In fact, I'm betting we have a lot of members who aren't too clear on what chamber music is, much less how to compose it.

BTW, what is Silver Chicken Music? (I'm almost afraid to ask.)

Sorry. I meant say that I only get drunk *at home.* That sentence probably made no sense whatsoever.

Silver Chicken Music is my company that takes commissions to write, arrange, transcribe, &c music. It also functions as a publishing company for some of my own works. I'd post a link to the web page, but it's rather disorganised at the moment.

Play: Sax (tenor mostly, alto sometimes), also a bit of irish whistle; sing (bass) mostly in cathedral choirs in Bristol these days; viola (once upon a time - maybe resurectable). My band has a site at [URL removed by moderator]

Like: hard to know where to start - Lobo, Josquin and their medieval ilk; Stan Getz, Pat Metheny, Tower of Power, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Turrentine, Brecker Brothers, Tom Jobim and his compatriots, Indian music of all kinds, and its recent derivations, found myself admiring Abba nostalgically today... rather catholic, as you can see.

Want: to come across interesting people and ideas.

Tilly - back in mauve

Hi, I'm called TC IV ("TC the forth").
I'm very straight on, so here we go:

1) I play trumpet (and sometimes sing) in a Norwegian band called "The Drownin' Ducks" (Right now we have just done one gig in our entire time as a band, - hopefully we will do some more in the near future)
2) Oh, I like many types of musical genres, but to add it short up: english musical theatre (like Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love), Michael Ball, Michael Crawford, Tom Jones, er... Henry Purcell, The Blues Brothers... (NOT boybands, goth or hard rock)
3) I'm not sure yet... Trying to figure something out.

Welcome, TC IV! You've been accepted into the Musicians Guild, and I've added you to our membership roster.

We have another member named T.C. Burgerpants, so I'll have to be careful about who's who. He's a member of a Christian contemporary band, though, so I'm pretty sure I won't confuse them with 'The Drownin' Ducks'!

If you do perform again, let us know. We have a running thread for this, and there is a link to it on the main page. If we have a member in your area (I'm not sure to be honest), they may want to go and watch you perform.

I like musicals also, and I like both of your choices. I also like less 'polished' rock musicals like Hair and Rent. And who couldn't like the Blues Brothers? smiley - winkeye

Anyway, thanks for joining. Here are a few helpful links:

Azara

I'd like to join, but
1- I can't sing
2- I can't play any musical instrument whatsoever!
On the other hand I am very interested in classical music and especially in opera, and, given that I live in Ireland where the choice of live opera performance is limited, I manage to see quite a lot. Since you've been kind enough to draw attention to my very first guide entry, Castrati in Opera, I hope I will be accepted as a researching rather than performing member of the Musicians' Guild.

Welcome, Azara. I've accepted you to the Guild, and added your name to our membership roster.

You can be our local expert on opera. We have a number of classically trained musicians, but I think you may top them all on opera knowledge. You get a lot more from watching opera than from playing in the orchestra. smiley - winkeye

Am I right that you are working on an entry covering opera as a whole? That's quite a large project, I must say. Do let me know if you could use helpers. Our members have coordinated to cover broad topics before. And if you get a working draft done, let me know and I'll post a prominent link so the other MuGs can take look.

What follows are the usual helpful links I give to new members. Thanks for joining us! smiley - smiley

Azara

Well, Musicians Guild, it'll be nice to be considered an expert! I am merely an enthusiastic amateur with a taste for ferretting out information. The entry I've started is certainly not opera as a whole - that would really be a huge project. It's going to be " A Short History of Opera" , skimming through the most important genres and composers. There already is an edited guide entry on Opera, but it takes a very different approach to mine - there's not a single composer's name in it! A lot of it is quite funny, though. I'm writing another entry specifically on French Opera which the French Music project people may use bits of. Otherwise, I favour the "nibble round the edges" approach to a wide general topic like opera - hence the "Castrati" entry, and maybe "Opera in Translation" or "Mad Scenes in Opera" or "Great Opera Houses of the World" or a composer or singer or two.....
