Steviebab (Squad No. 8) Posted May 17, 2001
I play the guitar (but not very well) and sing. I also write and play my own songs. My musical tastes are eclectic. I'm particularly fond of singer/songwriting guitarists! Record collection ranges from (in no particular order) Brian Eno, Steely Dan, Spandau Ballet, Pink Floyd, Stereophonics, The Fall, Paul Simon, Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Jam, Bach, Anuna, Jeff Buckley, The Pogues, EBTG, Springsteen, Squeeze and many others I've forgotten to mention. Tend to have favourite songs rather than favourite artists.
I'd like to see is anything about guitar chords and techniques plus info about anything worth listening to.

Hi I play the guitar, not very well but I am enthusiastic. I'm 43 and wish I'd learned at a young age. My main musical interests lie in Rock and Blues, I am now developing an interest in Classical and Opera (it's so powerful !), I'd like to find other would be musicians in my area (North East Lincs) to play with and swap ideas. I like things that are a little bit leftfield but not wacky just for the sake of it.

I'd like to join please I've always been a bit of a MuG. I play guitar, not too well, I am keen though and learning all the time. My main musical interests are in Blues and Rock. Favourite artists being John Lee Hooker, BB King, Freddie King, EC, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, well and lots of others. I have recently become interested in Classical and Opera (it's so powerful) though my knowledge is fairly limited as yet. I'm looking for other musicians in my area to play with and exchange ideas. I've just started writing my own songs ( I can't sing though) but still can't sing and play at the same time. This is hardly surprising to me as I have trouble Waliking and chewing gum at the same time.

Hi.
1) I'm a pianist, or to stop the hard of thinking getting confused, i play piano,
2) I Love all kinds of music, anything, depending on my mood, I Love the music from the band "Queen" and "Moby", but some of this new "alternative" rock is a real deterrent for me from that kind of music, also i'm not too keen on rap, but i have a good ear for music from the 60's onwards.
3) I Would like a virtual place to hang out and just chat about music as in other virtual places people say "Oh, I Don't play an instrument, let's change the subject" etc..
4) Yes, I'm good with some HTML, Except Forms, I Haven't got the hang of yet, but Frames, Tables, Images, Backgrounds, HEX colors, Text Formatting, etc, i can do with ease!
I'm not Quite as good with GuideML Yet, though I Am still learning it, as I Was only introduced to the Guide XML Yesterday.
Thanks,
aka

Wow! We've got a broad range of interests and abilities here. My apologies to those of you who have been waiting several days for a reply. I've officially accepted baggyfish, Dr. Strangely Famliar, The Mystical Fish, Montre8, Steviebab, TheElectricWarrior, and aka to the Musicians Guild.
Welcome, new MuGs! You're names now appear on our membership roster. And Tilly, I have updated your name so it reads correctly on the roster.
Here are some links for the new members:
If you want to put our group graphic on your page, the instructions are at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A434648
We're always updating the Guild's main page at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U150368
And if you want to browse around, our directory of music entries is at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A425161
aka, if you're really interested in helping, send me email. My email address is at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U136122
The rest of you can help by starting up some good discussions, replying to people's questions, and maybe writing a Guide Entry on something related to music that you're knowledgeable about. In particular, h2g2 is very sparse on Guide Entries about jazz and the groups that play it.
One final link! There's a fellow who's trying to get everyone to vote on the 3 best songs of all time. If you'd like to send your vote in, go to:

I am Loosecannon,
I play drum machines and keyboard in a alternative experimental indie band called Moid, based in London UK.
My favourite genres are indie, non commercial dance (esp trance etc) and folk rock from Dylan onwards. I also love classical music especially Elgar.
Nuff said!

Cool. Thanks for joining, LooseCannon. I've added you to our membership roster, and I've put your band's next performance on the Guild's main page. I'm begining to like trance techno myself, you know. It's an acquired taste.
Please see the post above yours for a list of useful links. If you have any other questions, let me know.

Heh heh. One-eye, I've accepted you into the Musicians Guild and added you to our membership roster.
aka, your use of the Musicians Guild graphic is super! Good job. And yes, there are members here who like Queen. And I'm one of them! The last I knew, Bohemian Rhapsody was leading the race for h2g2's Favourite Song of All Time. So we must not be alone.
Again, here are the useful links I like to give new members:

Mund Posted May 23, 2001
As a contrast with littlemissfordprefect...
I'm coming up to 50. I've played very little music in the last few years, partly through pressure of work, partly through pressure of bringing up children, partly through being a BOF who can't see the important things in life whent they might help.
I've always said that I can get a reasonable note out of just about any instrument and a tune out of most of them, but that doesn't get you very far. Guitar, piano and flute are my main poisons, though I'm still trying to get back up even to my own standard after spinal/nervous problems and surgery.
In recent weeks I've joined a samba band - loads of wonderful percussion, which is something I wrote a novel about five years ago. Now I've done some of it myself I want to rewrite various chapters. Isn't it lucky nobody's published it yet? (Oh yeah!)
I sing. And some people don't leave the room. I don't often sing other people's songs, and one person told me that made me boring at parties. What I seriously love is to harmonise - something classic like Sloop John B or picking up something you've never heard before and fighting to give it an extra dimension.
Music has re-entered my life erratically over the last year and a half. I'm trying to build up the courage and technique to perform three songs at my local songwriters' club. I've played a flute part to The End at a couple of parties. And I've witnessed some of the most glorious BAH-WHOOMP noises I've ever heard when the big drums at the samba group get going.
I like Clash to Rachmaninov. But I worry about young people whose music doesn't annoy their elders other than by being unannoying.
At this moment I don't want anything from the Musicians' Guild but occasional companionship, and I don't want to help run the thing because I've only just found it and I might tread all over something valuable. But things can change.
Crack Rocket in Full Effect
Dr. Funkalicious Posted May 24, 2001
i am the doctor, the master, the smooth rhymes blaster. if you want it here it is, hate on us it spells disaster.
Hi y'all. I am Dr. Funkalicious, singer/slanger of the hard core melodic thumpin Crack Rocet Crew. We hail from Gainesville,Fl, home of the University of Florida Fighting Gators. WE may be high in phat and loaded with funkesterol but we are 100% Frat Free. We started about 4 months ago, and as of now have not played anything other than local open mic nights, but this will soon change as we are now all content with the flow and the glow, the hard core down home melodic throw that each one of us adds to the cocophonous rocketing jam. Don't hate us because were beautiful, hate us because we ate your baby. oh wait, that was the dingo...well then hate us because we're beautiful damn it!
We are a wonderful meld of hip hop, acid jazz, punk rock, trip hop, and a little bit of Kenny G. Just Kidding. We are the anti-thesis of Kenny G. Want to know why this is? It is because you will not fal asleep listening to us. If you fall asleep while being injected by our Funkadermic Needle then for God's sake get yourself checked out because you may need 42cc's of hearing. This is not your mother's band (unless you are one of us or our siblings because, lets face it, if it wasn't for our moms we wouldn't be here, so this is our mother's music) so next time you are in our neck of the galaxy, by all means look us up.
Cheers,
Dr. Funkalicious

i am the Dr. Funkalicious...the man with a plan in a can which is spam.
i replied yesterday to the join here and did not recieve an answer...have i been shunned? woah is me if it is the case. i feel like a little tea pot that has just been tipped over and poured out.
*wishful thinking* perhaps it got lost in the vortex of cyberia, so once again i will tell you of The Me.
I am Dr. Funkalicious, singer/slanger of the hip hop/ trip hop/ punk rock/jazz funk/ down and dirty band known as Crack Rocket. We hail from Gainesville, Fl, home of the University of Florida Fighting Gators. We are high in Phat, loaded with Funkesterol and 100% Frat Free.
As far as fovorites go i guess you could say my favorite band/musical artist/music genre is anyone and anything that puts my booty into overdrive. If it's shakin' then it's bakin' cuz there's no fakin' in this bacon (hind quarter). Anyone from Johny Cash to the Beastie Boy's gets this young funkster movin' and groovin'.
Anything in particular that i would like from the Musician's Guild you ask? Well i would like to see a place where all of us would be able to post Mp3's or other compressable music. it would be like everyone trading their own Funkable cards of down and dirty jamminosity. I personaly would like to inject the world with the Funkadermic Needle which is me.
Cheers,
Dr. Funkalicious

Yo, Dr. Funkalicious. You haven't received a reply, but neither have the people who asked before you. It's nothing personal, I'm just struggling with college exams and don't have the time to update the Guild pages daily. I'll be getting around to that now...

Okay! I've accepted LittleMissFordPrefect, Mund, and Dr. Funkalicious to the Musicians Guild. Your names all appear on the membership roster now. I'm struct again by the variety we see in members here. It's really super. Anyway, here are the usual links If you want to put our group graphic on your page, the instructions are at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A434648 We're always updating the Guild's main page at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U150368 And if you want to browse around, our directory of music entries is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A425161 And there's a very important new link! It seems to me that casual conversation like aka's often gets lost among all the new members introducing themselves. So I've started up a thread for general chat. To chat with other members, go to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F52166?thread=117295 Oh! To answer aka, I haven't voted for the Favourite Songs of All Time yet. But I will. And yes, I did notice that you added your MuG status to your name! I wrote about this observation at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A565193, in the 'Why is h2g2 so addictive?' section. I do appreciate the free publicity.
