While I can't substantiate the date that the nomination was sent in, it's still disingenuous to think that in the less than two weeks that he was holding office that he could possibly effect any change. The majority of people with whom I've talked about this event have reached a consensus that this was an undeserved award. I tend to agree.

*enters, grabs three apple spice donuts from the plate at the butler's hatch, and eats two before speaking*
The pharmacist messed up and forgot to put my hrt rx in the post. I've been without for 4 days now, and am having an instant menopause. The worst of which is that I have been taken over by a state of anxious dread and don't want to get out of the wchair at all, because I'm convinced I'm going to die. They promised I'll have the stuff tomorrow. Boy howdy, it better arrive.
*finishes third donut* IRL I have very little appetite... Advice and reassurances wouldn't go amiss. I've never actually had a menopause. I went straight from the hysterectomy to the hrt and never looked back.
Just now I started a load of wash and realized that I put the soap in the softener section and vice versa. *rolls eyes* I cannot be inattentive like that -- it's dangerous!

Well, there's a gap between close of nominations and announcing the prize and presumably they take into account events during that gap.
And the quotes from the Nobel committee members on the news here in the UK said explicitly that it was for effort and for giving the world hope. W made a lot of enemies, and not all of them are muslims.
I agree though, it's disingenuous and too soon. On the other hand, maybe they didn't want to award it posthumously. Maybe they *can't* award them posthumously.

Modern drugs are good. Two years of no proper cold remedies and today, finally, I realised I can dose myself up to the eyeballs again. My but the world is a slightly tingly pleasant place tonight. I do not remember Lemsip being this strong. Must have lost my tolerance...
So I definitely feel for you, Lil. Sounds horrid. Tea. Cocoa. Hot milk and honey. Hot water bottle. Your favourite comfort reading. Some company. A major distraction of some kind.

I must admit that my first thought on hearing about Obama was 'What for?'

I fear the cynical view is correct, and it's mostly out of relief. It's an award for being the comparatively good guy and winning the election.

Evening all
There has been a Beetles tribute in Southend on Sea today. I remember listening to Give peace a chance and remmeber love both on the apple record label.

Put it in a different perspective: if not Obama, then who?

I would say one of the other 205 candidates. Perhaps the leader in exile of the Uighur people for example.

The conservative pundits are jumping all over Obama because of this, saying some nasty things. I see no reason to trash Obama whether he deserved the prize or not. He didn't select himself. Let them trash the selection committee.
