Glad things seem to be improving a little, Lil. You could perhaps do with some arnica gel.
Well, folks, I've gone and done it. Deregistration letter has been sent to school.
*awaits backlash*
I have spoken to one of K's friends parents today, they think it's a brilliant idea Now to contact the others...

Good luck Mags, will you have to teach to the national curriculum or can you choose whatever you like?
Not sure I could do it, it sounds awful but I don't think I could spend all day, every day with my kids without going mad. Not sure there was a message from my anxiety attack, other than "don't have kids" and it is a bit late for that!

You're braver than I am, Mags. I think there's some major flaws in our current education system, and I think I could make a vocation out of some kind of home-schooling collective (you all work, I'll teach everyone's kids), but I couldn't spend all day with just my own kids. This is why the young gentleman is being mother if we have any surprises.
My housemate's mother and girlfriend are both in the house, and will be for the next few days. It's playing havoc with my safety instincts. I don't like having strangers in my nest.

The national curriculum is not compulsory, Kelli. I might stick a few bits in to begin with, though. His writing needs to improve, that will come.

I've been told by friends that if they found out I was pregnant and intended to keep the child they would call Social Services immediately. Apparently everyone thinks I'd make an awful parent.

They don't sound like the sort of friends I'd want, FG... I never wanted kids... I can't live without them now.

fg, I don't know that you'd ever find yourself in that situation, being the responsible woman that you are, but if you were, I think you'd figure it out. Heck, I did!

<<i've been told by friends that if they found out I was pregnant......."
With 'Friends' like that, FG, you do not need enemies!
How DARE they judge your ability to raise a child???????
'Friends' like those you can do without, FG!!
If you are with child, you have more assistance on hootoo than you need.
All your hootroo frienmds are here to help you!!!
And you can tell THAT to Social Services too!!!

So I was wrong of me to find that remark amusing?
Turns out that google lock your account if there are repeated attempts to access it, and of course I made repeated attempts to access it so they locked my account.
Night all.

The deed poll has been signed and witnessed - my name has been changed. Hooray!

I have been wanting to do this for years. Finally the time is right, and I hereby authorise and require all of you at all times to designate, describe and address me by the adopted name of [CENSORED].

Hello [CENSORED] and welcome to the world.
*Somewhat outraged on FG's behalf also, actually*

I think it's harder than you might think to do the role reversal thing in childcare. B and I always mused on that, but even if circumstances hadn't meant that it made more sense for me to stay at home last year, I probably would have done anyway. No proper paternity leave for Papas as yet and you get locked into the caregiver role after the six month period or year or whatever.
Plus, there's the maternal hormones and then the logistics of breastfeeding. Not to mention the fact that while women can just about get away with the career break, men would simply be looked on as freaks if they did try to get back on the ladder some years down the line by and large. Depends on the job, of course.
Still, I hear there are plans afoot to make paternity leave the same as maternity leave, so we'll see if that helps.
