I think Obama and his staff also think it's a bad thing; he said as much in his speech this morning. This prize sets the bar impossibly high for his Administration.

Frankly, though? A good share of the negative reaction to his win here in the US is pure sour grapes.

Y'know, one thing annoying about it being too early to test yet is that I should treat myself as if I *am* pregnant, medicine-wise, without knowing if the restrictions are actually necessary. One of our students had a lovely meltdown late this morning, and my shin still aches. normally, I'd take ibuprofen, band all would be well--there's not even going to be any bruising, I don't think. As it is, right now, all I should take is acetaminefan, which doesn't actually do much of anything for me. I also have the beginnings of a cold (I hope it's just a cold--babysitter and her daughter have H1N1) and I didn't hit it with Airborne soon enough.

At least I can still do smiley - choc

Ack! That reminds me: one of my coworkers called in sick yesterday, then called us with the bad news today. She's got the swine flu.

Needless to say, her entire cubicle was heavily sprayed down with Lysol today, and since she's one of the office coffee drinkers, the communal pot got a dip in some bleach. I don't know if that will help. I'm sure some of us will be coming down with it in the next few days.

Don't think bleach will help.

Swiune Flu is a virus...

Bleach only kills germs.......

Best of luck to you..

If you get it, the anti-viroids work wonders..

Missus had it a month or two ago, and got the pills.

She was fine after a few days. How I didn't get it off her is a complete mystery do both our GP and me!!!

According to the CDC site, H1N1 dies in 2 hours without a host, so the Lysol and bleach were a bit of overkill, too late. Then again, there's lots of hardier nasties that you likely eliminatedsmiley - ok

GT, no offense, but I think you take things too seriously. For example? No one's *really* going to inform Social Services if I happen to get pregnant--an event that's as likely to happen as the Immaculate Conception. Bleaching the coffee pot at work? An exaggeration on my part. Sure, people got crazy and starting wiping my coworker's desk down with various cleaning supplies and there was a momentary kerfuffle about the office coffee pot, but I'm sure we're all well aware a flu shot, washing our hands, and other simple measures are just the thing to prevent infection.

Have a drink. Take a toke. Calm down, man. My sense of humor and outlook on life rests chiefly on sarcasm.

So far, there hasn't been a case of H1N1 here, but I'm guessing it's only a matter of time.

D is home for the week. Enjoying the time with my kid!

Lil, sympathy on "instant menopause," I hope it is sorted out soon! The grocery stores & pharmacies sell herbal supplements (one brand is Remifemin, others have various combinations of "re" and "fem") with black cohosh, some with soy plant sterols ("plant estogens" in the ads) that may provide some relief of the symptoms. smiley - hugsmiley - tea

I wonder if the upgrade fairies will sprinkle their dust on Teuchter again. Enjoy your break.

I'm told my sister and some of the kids have had swine flu. Speaking to the consultant at the hospital he thinks there is a bit of over reaction on the government's part. Still I'll get my flu jab on Monday and it won't protect me from the H1N1 strain and I won't worry about it.

Mrs Zen

Spent a lot of yesterday working on one PC while Robbie Williams did his tribute to Frank Sinatra in the Royal Albert Hall on the other. As a result I've just bought two Rat Pack albums off Amazon and since I was there I bought a couple of Warren Zevon ones too. Seemed rude not to.

Just blogged about To Do lists and not letting them overwhelm you. Comments welcome. Does it sound more enticing if I say that it references Alice Through the Looking Glass and the Book of Common Prayer? Hmmm. Thought not. The next post really needs to be about sex, or at least have jokes in it.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

'Germs' is a catch-all term usually referring to pathogenic microrganisms, which a virus is. You're probably thinking of bacteria.
Anyway, bleach *can* kill viruses which have been left on surfaces and objects... including influenza.

Anyway, now that's off my chest (sorry, GT, I couldn't let it go... sometimes my instinct for pedantry is just too strong!); hi everybody!

Today I've made an extra special effort to read some of the backlog and post something relevant. However, I forgot most of what I'd read in the backlog when I saw Ben's link to Regretsy... there are those with no talent for arts and crafts. Then there are those who simply lack the ability to realise what makes good arts and crafts.

Slightly puzzled over Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize... I rather think they should've waited a while so he can actually have *done* all the great things he is doubtless capable of (the rest of the gubmint notwithstanding).

I'd forgotten about the moonbomb. Heard about it on Radio 2 a few days ago... I'll have to check it out.

Apart from that I'm well, I still have a job though I have no idea how long for... the end date is still unconfirmed. Keep getting called/e-mailed about potential jobs only to find out later that the job has been withdrawn due to lack of funding. Stupid recession.
I've started preparing for C*******s already as some of the presents I'll be giving are going to be hand made and I only have a couple of months in which to do them. Biggest project is a Treasure Island Dizzy cross-stitch (yes, I do that now) for my mate Brian who is as obsessed with old 8-bit video games as I am.
