Congratulations, Marv! That's great news, and maybe it will start a trend for the other out-of-work salonistas.

Congratulations Marv! You so deserve this.
Hi RV50 -- are we all going to have to guess who you are/were?
New conversation tomorrow.

Is this the first time we've been over 3000?
Yaaaaaay, Marv
That's fabulous news.
They say things come in threes so I wonder who the next two successful job seekers will be?
>>But the big thing was that I MET Eric Idle<<
Just as long as you didn't launch into the Nudge, nudge, wink, wink - say no moah! routine
I wonder which Python sketch they're most fed up of having re-enacted.
Speaking of which ... do other Salonistas have a favourite Python sketch?
I'm quite partial to the fish slapping dance.
It's just after 8.30am here in BJ and I'm sitting on the 32nd floor of the hotel, watching the sun burn off the morning mist. The Trousers, aka the Bird's Legs, aka the CCTV Building, is gradually being revealed.

Checking out of the apartment yesterday was a complete pain in the ar*e. The landlady decided to get argumentative about the utility bills and hot tempers in foreign languages always sound worse than they should.
The sum under discussion was less than $20 - which I'd have been happy to give her just to save the half hour shouting match that ensued between her, Mr T, the letting agent and our driver, who's very protective when he thinks we're being ripped-off.
I was part of a Beijing Mini-meet last night
Met Dragon Queen and her daughter in the centre of town and we explored the night food market and did some tea-tasting.
I was a bit concerned about how we would find each other in a busy place but we both got off the same metro train and bumped into each otehr on the platform. In a city this large - over 50 million inhabitants - that was fortuitous.
Incidentally, I discovered yesterday that the district of BJ, where we've been staying, has a larger population than Scotland!
I'll put a photo of the tea-tasting up on FB - if and when I can eventually access the site.

First things first, here's a link for all us bibliophiles: http://awfullibrarybooks.wordpress.com/
Marv, EXCELLENT news, indeed!!!
Okay, my favorite Python sketch? Hmmm. First and foremost, the one I can never remember the title of, but involves crossing the North Sea on a raft to ask Kierkegaard a question. And then Crunchy Frog. It's always a toss up.
What did I say to Eric Idle? It went something like this:
Me: oh. You're Eric Idle.
EI: Why, yes, yes I am. And you are?
Me: uh...MR (I did, in fact, give him my real name).
EI: And did you enjoy the show?
Me: Oh yes. Very much. You're part of the reason I'm a broke grad student.
EI: Well, ticket prices in LA...
Me: Oh, no. Not that. Because I went to graduate school. In medieval history. A PhD, actually.
EI: Really? You went to graduate school for medieval history because of me?
Me: Well, Holy Grail.
EI: Goodness. Well.
Me: Sorry, I'm a bit flustered. You're...wow.
EI: Well.
Me: Oh, sorry. I should let you go...okay, I'm going to let you go.
EI: Lovely to meet you.
Me: Oh, you too.
That's not exact, mind you, given how flustered I was, but something like that. See what I'm saying? Geekness max.

I'm very partial to nudge-nudge wink-wink, actually, but I'm also fond of the gay soldiers drill.
Marv, I am so pleased for you. That is really good to hear:
MR, that's charming you know. I can't imagine that many fan-girls have told him they'd done a History PhD because of the Grail.
Big Bro's arrived, which is lovely, and we had a very pleasant evening catching up and, well, catching up.

Well done, Marv, and good luck!
MR, I bet that's one of the highest compliments a tongue-tied fangirl could have given him.
