Sol, really, at some point, no hot water is a health hazard.
Then again, the brilliant architects of my neighborhood went cheap back in the 1960s, and put the pipes *under* the concrete slab foundations. All well and good in a place on bedrock, mayhap, but in a place known to have upwards of 50 earthquakes a day (mind you, we only feel them when they're over 3, but still). So we have "slab leaks" on a regular basis. And it doesn't help that there's no money to fix them, or that at this point, it would be cheaper to raze the whole lot and start over.

50 a day? Eeek.
Sol, if you get the chance to go to Wandsworth town hall, do. The area just inside the public entrance comprises melodramatic marble columns several storeys high and turns up in films draped in Nazi Flags and masquerading as the interior of a 3rd Reich Schloss, or simlar.

The bloke I was visiting there was sweetly very proud of it.
Manchester Town Hall on the other hand is like the bastard offspring of a cathedral.

Irv, did the orange cat raise his leg to you?
I've eaten at the Magnolia Cafe and Katz's, and I think I've been to the Threadgill... It's hard to find a bad place to eat in Austin. There's a vegetarian restaurant called Mama's which is quite good. When I was visiting my grandparents in San Antonio we always went to Carem's. I always ordered the cabrito, which was quite tasty. When I heard it was baby goat, it didn't hurt my appetite at all. Not much does.

FG, you and Sporky were in town and you didn't say hi?!?!?!
Now I'm hurt.
Threadgill's has great fried okra, though.

I don't have classes or sunshine or studying. What I do have this morning is a huge guilt trip, courtesy of my ex boss who's just asked me to wo*k this afternoon and who I've just refused, on the grounds that I have Stuff To Do to ready myself for going away on Saturday.
Can't win. Either feel guilty at letting someone down - or resentful at having to do something I haven't got time for and didn't want to do anyway.
Harrumph.
Titania, I meant to say that your most recent photo surprised me because I'd always imagined you to be in a more urban setting. For some daft reason, I had a picture in my head of Kurt Wallander's apartment and had inserted you into the scenario
How lovely to walk that route every day, though perhaps a bit more difficult in the depths of winter?
Right now, I'm off to the gym to see if I can dispel these guilty feelings with some physical exertion.

Yes Manchester Town hall is a rather traditional neo-gothic building. Designed by Alfred Waterhouse, like the Natural History Museum building in Nodnol.

The last three days have been a very long month. It really needs to be tomorrow so I can sleep in.

Well, if the hot water doesn't come back on on Friday, the Star and I are going home to Mother's.
Does anyone know how to get oil out of carpet? I have knocked the Star's sunflower oil over and inevitably it has missed the changing mat and the waterproof thing I have under and around the changing mat and gone all over the carpet.

i would try dish soap. it's the best thing for getting grease out. Or sprinkle something on teh carpet that would absorb the grease, first. i think i've heard baking soda?

Threadgill's *does* have good fried okra. I ordered it myself! Sorry, Gwen, I didn't realize you lived in Austin.
