Of course Kelli, since you got two different opinions about whether you could adopt some dogs or not from two different people, you still don't know which one gave you the correct answer. The second one could be of the *opinion* that dogs should never be placed in homes where everyone works, but may be over-expressing it as a matter of policy when it isn't. Ask again.
This is likely my last post for a week or so. It's time for the annual trek to the shore to squash far too many family members into a far too small rental house and try to relax.

That's right... always get a second opinion.
Going to the beach, huh? Bring lots of skeeter spray and sunscreen!

Have a good time
All rescue centres in the UK are charities, as far as I know there are no Government funded ones.
The biggest is the RSPCA and they started off the whole home visit thing, even if you have already rehomed pets for them. There are also several more and probably, after the RSPCA, the Battersea Dogs Home is the next most well known (I had a from there once). As no animals are put to sleep if no home is found, I don't quite know what they do will all the animals that don't get rehomed. If employed people are turned down they must be pushed for homes.
Kelli, I would go back to the first charity and point out to the Manager the conflicting advice as they could be losing potential homes. If you have no joy there, then try other charities and local vets. Sometimes people have to give up their pets due to illness or career moves and they ask their vet if they know of someone who could take on their animal.

*wonders if she has time to borrow Zeppo and Jersey Gummo for her charity run today*
Today I'm going to run a timed mile for Sport Relief. It's a big national event: apparently there'll be 70 thousand runners. Tony Blair did his run yesterday, for some reason . Perhaps to get it in the 'papers. His time hasn't been published but is described in the press as 'modest' - I must remember that phrase for later
.
If you'd like to support me, in spirit or by sponsorship, please look at the Team Ant page A2804465. I'll be putting the names of my supporters on my running number as my 'mile mates.'
And remember to wear your deelyboppers!

Hati Posted Jul 10, 2004
Hi! I am back from my holidays.
I had a h2g2-tour meeting Ottox U150740 and Sunny U175291, visiting Santragenius V U62867, Tartaronne U187820 and Pierce the U109937. Oh, and I travelled with Filifjonka U201000. We hitchhiked around in Denmark and it was just exellent.
I am suffering from backlog holes right now as I skipped *some* LEDs but what caught my attention was that somebody's friend got pregnant and Kelly wants to have a . Or something like this. Anyway, I keep wondering how comes the governments quite often care more about the household conditions when it's about dogs but for having children everybody is qualified.

You're right, JG makes all the difference. I broke the landspeed record over the (undulating and meandering) mile

Last night was almost a family reunion at the pub. Two old employees of the bar happened to be there, one of whom I have not seen in years. It was very good to see them both!
In other news, i am oing to go have coffee with my ex today. It will be the first time we have seen each other in person in over two years. GDZ will be along, but not as a moderator this time. I believe myself to be over the breakup, but would like to have a pleasant chat with someone I have known nearly all of my life.

Well, the Ex never did return my call. So I went shopping for groceries. I've got a stir fry going, waiting for everyone to get home. I like cooking for more than just myself.

Marv. Sounds like you're moving on.
Sometimes I forget how nice it is to hang out with the people you've known since you were young. Distance has a way of erasing all the good memories but hi-lighting the bad ones. It's summer, so I've heard from friends from high school who are back in town... It reminds me of how very idyllic life was when I wasn't in the "real world"... I kind of miss it. But I could never go back, I'm sure.
*sigh*

Well done, Amy. I gave Ormy some dosh, as did a load of other folks.
Kelli, do try other organisations. The RSPCA and the Blue Cross have different rules, for a start, and most breeds have rescue organisations specific to that breed, for a start. In fact, a quick google gave me this: http://www.dogpages.org.uk/sth-east.htm .
There are two separate issues here - the rules of each organisation, and what is actually practicable for you and the dogs. Some charitable people are - as Hypatia's Mrs Busybody expemplifies - anything but charitable by nature.
If greyhounds really do just sleep and run, then maybe they'd be a good choice.

I started reading the info on some of the sites, and http://www.grwe.co.uk/care.htm has an interesting section on separation anxiety about half way down the page.
And now I really must go and sleep.
