Thanks for the hugs guys. It does have to be said it is all my own fault for wanting to have my cake and eat it, though. tanstaafl.
Glad your Mum is ok, Z! Great wedding, Marv and Zonker. Go Hypatia!

Your poor Mum, Z, I hope she is well over the shock now.
I have never had long hair. I have tried to grow it a couple of times, but got fed up with it before it got to shoulder length.

Sounds like mostly good (sorry to hear about your Mum, Z) weekends were had. We went out to wander round the gardens at Chatsworth house on sunday afternoon in the sunshine having fun looking round the kitchen garden (huge) counting the 100 steps (they got the name right ) and trying to get lost in the maze (not too difficult). Yesterday we went out to Sherwood forest and had a look at the Major Oak, a huge, huge tree that's only about 800ish years old! All the big branches are proped up now to stop them falling down. MC recounted being able to walk right up to it when she was little! Now it's fenced off to try and protect it. Then it was off to the pretty village of Laxton nearby which still has three open fields farmed in strips by some of the village farmers as has been done for probably 1000 or so years. Finally we ended up in one of the few pubs with no beer in this country. This was a cider house, that's all you could get (apart from a few spirits, fruit liquers or soft drinks) - the food was excellent, huge sausages.
Saturday evening we went out to somewhere nearish which is a centre dedicated to public astronomy to try and see Mars. We were given a tour of the building (how many telescopes) and a talk, then it was wait around for the cloud to clear. Eventually it cleared enough for them to get the big binoculars out (a set of binoculars made from two telescopes and a hand built eyepiece section joining them together).
Z glad you enjoyed yourself here in Manchester, there is a lot more to see than the village and if you're ever coming up again let us know and we could show you round some of the other parts of the city.

Very tired today. (Not a surprise - it was late and I was sitting by my PC with a bottle of Chardonnay last night).
I have got my PL sorted out with a B&B for this week, a possible room for the next 3 months, (or however long his contract is), and bus times to and from Heathrow. All I need to do now is sort out public transport to me here, and everything will be sunshine and tweeting birds.

Thanks for all the messages of sympathy for my Mum, she seems ok now, I just hope that she isn't hiding it. I used to be a regaular in Manchester, so I did see a little more of it than the village, the Whitworth Art Gallery and the Museum at the University (real frogs my ex is has done a lot of conservation work so was able to tell me about the animals in the natural history section.

for Z
I had waist length hair once. It was like wearing a broom. It can also be extremely uncomfortable in certain, ah, romantic positions. I'm glad it's gone.
Speaking of bouncing, one of the zombies and Tim decided to start a midnight basketball league

I have long hair, then short hair, then long hair, then short hair. It grows like a weed and within two months of getting it cut its long again. I get compliments like "such beautiful hair" when its long, and compliments like "that cut really looks great on you!" when its short. I don't know which is better!
