Sol, 30 C is right in the middle of my my confort zone. I am good from the high 20's up to about 40. Much over 40 gives me some trouble. When I lived in the deep desert it would get nearly to 50, but that was just Way Too Hot!

I don't think I've ever been in 40. How awful that sounds. *shudder* Mind you I think the problem is partly that it's so horribly muggy here.

Today's not too bad, though. 20 degrees or so. Nice for a stroll round a leafy many-variety-of-treed park. So that's what we did.

I am good till about 100F which is just under 40C. I prefer it to be bone dry as well (go figure, I grew up in a desert) with less than 30% humidity. When it gets hot and muggy, my body just shuts down.

Dry heat is supposed to be nicer, though, isn't it.

This is a terribly English conversation. Shall I tell you about the splendid thunderstorm we had yesterday? smiley - laugh

... but did I ever tell y'all that the reason I ended up in Russia was cos I had a choice between here and southern India, and after a few small day dreams suddenly snapped to and remembered that I *really* hate hot weather?

It was quite, good, Hypatia. The rain was so heavy that the gutterings were shaking and humming and threatening to explode.

Sadly, they didn't though.

Sol, if you hate hot weather, avoid Utah in the summer.

I can never understand why people go to Singapore and Malaysia for a holiday, the climate is so hot and humid it takes 6 weeks to acclimatise. As kids we barely noticed, but once my thyroid gland packed its bags, I found hot weather (25ºC+) very draining.

I spent the afternoon making a fruit smiley - cake for tomorrow, which is a rarity for me these days and the smiley - bleeping thing fell apart as I was turning it out of the tin smiley - crosssmiley - grrsmiley - steam

Sol, if you hate hot weather combined with high humidity you also need to avoid a large section of the Midwest and most of the south - especially the Gulf coast.

Marv, does all of Utah get that hot? You have my deepest sympathy. When it gets over 90º F I'm just miserable. We have about 4-6 weeks each summer when it's so hot and humid that I try to stay inside whenever possible. When I wish I was in Moscow.

Caer, do you put rum in your fruitcake? I'm looking for a recipe for a cake I remember eating when I was a kid. My aunt made then but no one has the recipe anymore and the ones I've tried don't taste the same. I remember she used cherries, pineapple, lots of pecans and rum. And I think she may have used some molasses in place of part of the sugar.

Up in the mountains it does not get that hot, but in nearly all of inhabited areas, esp SLC and points south, it will get into the high 90's for much of the summer and into the low 100's for part of July and August. The lower desert will get insanely hot for a few days in July, but it usually does not last long. Most of Utah is desert. The Southern half is beautifull, the northern half boring.

Hypatia, the recipe I'm using today (and like a sucker for punishment I'm making another smiley - cake) is an Everyday Fruitcake and is made with sultanas, raisins, glacé cherries and only one egg. I used to make it a lot when the sons where small.

I put rum in rich fruit cakes, used for celebration cakes, like Christmas and wedding cakes.

I prefer dry heat if it's going to be more than 40ºC

Where is the grill party taking place - in this thread or a new one?
