Sounds right, Marv. But could this just be some bad commands or settings I can change, or does it have to mean the driver is just hosed?

Mac - could be the printer memory too. When you shut down the computer do you shut down the printer? Is the printer always on?
Just some thoughts.

Not sure, for sure, if it is the driver or not. That was a guess based on the symptoms given without being on the machine to play with it. I would uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers and then monitor it to see if the symptoms continue.
I guess that it is a driver because the printer does not respond till the spooler feeds the job to the printer. That leads me to believe it to be a software issue. The first thing I would do is to monkey withthe driver in teh way that I described. More than that and I am stumped as I don't really play with peecees anymore. If it is a reasonably recent printer I would also look for driver updates ont eh manufacturers site.
And a is almost always a unit of payment in my world . Now there is always the chance that I might find myself near Buffalo at some point in the near future (within a year or so) and if I am going to drive 4K miles ti visit one friend I am sure that I can find myself in whatever town you are in. NY is just not that big.

Thanks all. I'll try un/reinstalling.
There's a bumper sticker "Support your local coroner - die interestingly." I you substitute "computer tech" for coroner, and "kill your machine" for die, that's me.

Way to go Marv! Woohoo!
I failed my driving test first time round. I failed it by nearly running over a milkman. If you gonna go down, you might as well go down big I always say.

Other states don't have DMV appointments? That must be HORRENDOUS!
I failed my driver's test twice before finally getting it. I like to think I need the pressure of having one last try...
Going to Post Office to get passport tomorrow. Not sure whether or not THAT is going to be horrendous, but we'll see.

My first thought was HP printer too. Ours does not like ME, refuses to scan and even the latest download can't find the printer
I love Hootoonia btw, but the transporter is very slow on my PC, either it's overdue for one of H's housekeeping sessions, or is just getting old now it's 4
Bitterly cold wind today. It's over the Surrey Hills for Pilates then a BLT at Newlands Corner for me this morning.
The Barn there, Munch, does an excellent breakfast which is a bit of a treat on a Sunday morning.

I think Munchkin is off today, he certainly was yesterday.
I have heard tales of the Bacon Butties at Newlands Corner, I shall have to investigate somewhen
And boy was the wind cold this morning!

Those are from the snack bar, Toc, the Barn is across the road.
But the butties' reputation is justified, the number of police cars and bikes up there is testament to that. I prefer mine with HP sauce (Houses of Parliament not the HP earlier in the convo )
Poor Munch, he won't be snogging Pastey in a hurry again then.

Ok, We shall just have to do two lots of investigating
Gotta be brown sauce (hp if available) on a buttie

Nope, I'm in this morning, as my head didn't spin when I got out of bed. As it was only my second sick day in over three years working here I don't feel too guilty though.
I had a wee play with Hootoonia yesterday and it looks very pretty. For some reason, though, after I do a rendering and try to return to the low res overview the main screen freezes. I can shift about all over the GPS bit but the view screen just doesn't update.
Oh, and a new Sunday breakfast stop sounds good, a reason to get up and out is always welcome.
P.S. Well done there Marv.

When I took my driving test the candidate who set off just before me went the wrong way around the roundabout in the middle of town. It cheered me up no end and I was quite relaxed after that .

I remember a cab ride in Cairo (Egypt) once, where the driver seemed to be in an awful hurry - probably because we had been haggling over the price and he wanted to drop us off as quickly as possible - he didn't even drive all the way to the destination, but stopped a block or two away...
...when he came to a roundabout with a bit of a traffic jam he simply rounded it the wrong way around, against oncoming traffic!

dElaphant (and Zeppo his dog (and Gummo, Zeppos dog)) - Left my apostrophes at the BBC Posted Jan 29, 2003
I had a similar experience in Palo Alto, CA on an airport shuttle. The driver simply chose to ignore things like traffic lights and lane markings. I sank into my seat and died seventeen times prior to reaching the hotel, where I recovered and for some reason tipped him.

Note that it is a government site. If you can't access it from outside the US, that is because we cannot let Blondie fall into the wrong hands.
Marv, New York doesn't seem big, but it is misleading. Of course, compared to the midwest, almost nothing is big is it?

A buttie is indeed a sandwich. In my experience tends to be used when talking about bacon or chip fillings. i.e. It is a bacon buttie, but a sausage sarnie.
