Hmmm. That bagel sandwich did not really fill me up that well. I think that I need to go home and make a good grilled ham&cheese.

I am SHOCKED that, in a survey of American sandwiches, no-one has mentioned the BLT a.k.a. bacon, lettuce and tomato, sandwich. The bacon should be crispy, the toast still warm, the portion of mayo generous...
It me 4 tries to pass my British driving test, taken in the middle of Birmingham. I plead exigent circumstances.
And boy, do I ever miss English chips with salt and malt vinegar!

I am all about malt vinegar on my fish and chips. We had a local restaurant that used salmon in their fish and chips. It was so gooood.
The BLT is a great sandwich as well. I have a quirky friend who does not like either bacon or tomato. One day we were out dining together when she ordered a BLT. I told her I didn't think they served just an "L".

I nearly bought a BLT in the cafeteria here today, but changed my mind when I remembered that this caf can screw up coffee. Something as complex as a BLT would beyond their ability.

We have a lot of good sandwiches in America. Let's not forget the polish dog with mustard, onions and relish, Philly cheese steak or the good old dependable tuna melt. And plain old grilled cheese is really comfort food.

That is the problem with Utah, no regional food that I can really point to. The Mormon culture does not seem to reward creativity in much of anything especially food. While we "Enjoy" the greatest concentration of restraunts per capita, they are almost all fast food.

Ah, so you got to speak to the wonderful people at our computing services today Marv? These are the same people who reluctantly admitted in the late '90s that the personal computer was the wave of the future. And forced us to reapply for our e-mail addresses every 6 months (granted that was in the '80s, when they didn't see the general population having a use for e-mail). I have to admit that they are much improved lately, although I can still bang my head against the wall if I have to deal with some of them.
On the sandwich front we must mention the sub, or grinder, or hoagie, or hero (depending on region of the US) and the club sandwich. Do people elsewhere have fat cats or is that just a New Brunswick thing?

One of my favorite sandwiches is the Monte Cristo. French toast with ham and turkey and cheese in the middle (sometimes grilled again). This might make some of you squirm, but I like to dip mine in maple syrup (the fake stuff- I don't like the real thing) while I'm eating.

Sporky beat me to it, all hail the Monte Cristo! Mind you, you can't get a good one everywhere. The Monte Cristo might just be the sandwich most likely to be ruined.
Fish and chips - I recall the the Sea Shell, off the Marylebone station, from my semester as a student in London. I always got rock salmon, beter than the cod and 10p less.
But you can't go home again. I took my wife to the Sea Shell, but the Sea Shell of 2001 was not the same chip shop of 1983. The samon was still good, but the chips were stale.

Well, the scratching/gnawing thing started at about 2 am. H didn't wake up, I managed to doze. About 3.30 am it started making a real racket, finally waking H, he staggered out of bed, dressed and pulled down the loft ladder. Previously scratchy thing stopped at this point, but not last night. So H went up and discovered a ! It had been making enough noise for small elephant!
The general suggestion this morning was to put Cassie up there, but she would get so carried away she would be bound to crash through the only unboarded area into No1 son's bedroom.
So when I get up to Dad's, to defrost his freezer, I shall be phoning the Borough Council to get the pest controller out. My Mum used to say that where there is one , his family, in-laws and cousins weren't far behind.

Awoke to a light dusting of snow which melted as I went ot the station. Arriving in Farnborough though there was a whole half inch and anarchy on the roads. There must have been an accident on the M3 or something as the main road to the motorway was gridlocked. My project manager who is normally in just after eight is not in yet (half nine) and neither is my team leader, as he is stuck at home with his kid. Half an inch of snow but so much anarchy the school is shut! It is not as if it wasn't on the weather forecast or anything, it just fell during the rush hour.

Both Humane and basic mouse traps are readily available Caerwynn. Chocolate seems to make a good bait.

Just been phoned by one of my colleagues. He comes in from Guildford (a distance of about twelve miles, I think) and, two hours after he set off, he is half way. Apparently it has got a bit icey now, but still.
Ironically as well all the trains are running fine too.
