The Alaskan trip was indescribable, words fail to convey the beauty and majesty of that state.
We spent three days in Vancouver, BC Canada - a very nice city, a bit too urban for me, and don't get me started on street planning and pedestrians *I truly realised that we DON'T walk in LA*
Had three days on the sea *inside passage up and back and Hubbard glacier* the sounds of a glacier calving are unbelievable, I have 2 hours of digital tape on that alone.
The cities are great, we took helicopters to a glacier and dog sledded, we did a jeep/canoe trek and saw bears and bald eagles, we did a narrow gauge rail road trek and saw some of the most majestic scenes I have ever seen.
MR - I'm glad that you are finally experiencing true Southern California weather. We'll have to get together soon.

Glacier calving? Is that truly what it is called, or a typo? I now have an image of a glacier giving birth and mooing. It's a splendid image, really.

It's called calving in Swedish too (except with another word, of course, but same meaning) - ice bergs do it too...

{[caer csd] Alaska sounds wonderful. So many places to see! I really don't want to wish summer away, but I'm starting to get excited about our holiday!}

i did alaska about 10 years ago (the salmon factory thing) and i could not get over how beautiful it was. portage glacier is literally right off the road, and one can go see it. the pictures i took of it were incredible....the colors are just magnificent....
courtesy, did you get to see the kenai river? i have been trying to explain that color to my husband, and i just can't. it's like the crest of a wave, only more light-filled...that perfect turquoise white color.....
the other half got a job....he starts tomorrow!!! yeah, we will be solvent again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*borrows from sea, and does a snoopy dance of her own*
and yes, we will have to get together soon.

congrats to the other half, MR!
amy, glad to hear you're feeling better!
urgh, anyone seen "Signs" yet? freaky movie; i screamed twice in the theater and nearly tore my friend's sweater, and had a lot of trouble getting to sleep afterward... and i'm a horror fanatic! i highly recommend it to everyone... not much swearing, so little blood/gore it's shocking, and a good amount of humor thrown in. definitely from me.
urgh. anyone have any advice for getting rid of unwanted admirers? i'm afraid i've just been too nice to this guy, but i hate to tell him to buzz off as i really hate to be mean.

um, well, if you have a willing friend, ask them to be your "date" somewhere you know this guy will be. maybe he will get the hint then. of course, if he gets a little creepy, let people around you know about him. stalkers are no fun.

Have you told him that you're not interested, sea?
You can't always be nice to everyone - if he doesn't respect a no, then he doesn't deserve 'nice'
Interesting stories in today's newspaper:
Does anyone remember the inconsistency in the judging of the ice-skating competitions in the Olympic Winter Games earlier this year (I thought they were, anyway)?
A Russian crime boss has been arrested for trying to influence the judges, see BBC article here:

New attempt to set a Guiness record - a German radio broadcasting from under water - from the bottom of a pool in Mönchengladbach. He used an ultra sound microphone in a special helmet - the technicians say all went well, except that the sound was a bit... a bit... 'tinned'(?) and that the reporter Frank Niessen sounded like Kermit the frog...

Hmmm... that last bit looks a bit odd, doesn't it? It was a German who broadcasted from under water, not a radio...

[Munchkin] T. I take it you mean he sounded tinny, i.e. there was a mechanical buzz to the sound. Sounds like a daft but fun thing to do.
Oh and I am now intensly jealous of Courtesy, I am dieing to get back to the Rockies some day.

I spotted Springy and Ripley on tv! They've found gainful employment advertising Specsavers - a uk chain of opticians. They have quite long speaking parts. They must be raking it in.

{[caer csd] The police helicopter was around last night for 30 mins with search light aglow around 10.30 pm. No2 went to have a look and one of the nearby roads was busy with rozzers and their dogs. Nothing on the local news so far.
Those little guys are so cute aren't they, Amy? Nothing on the website about the advert though.

Yes, it is "The Lord of the Rings: The DVD Day" isn't it? Foolishly I pre-ordered mine from amazon; now I have to wait for it to ship.

Odd, my flatmate pre-ordered hers and I watched it last night. The Two Towers stuff does look cool. Having re-read the first book since I saw it at Christmas I now notice all the corners cut and stuff, which some what got in my way of just enjoying what is a very good film.

{[caer csd] I'm, deliberately not reading anymore LotR until all three films are out for that reason. So far we have 2 copies in the house and No2 son will be getting his later on today.
No1 son is upstairs watching his copy and I have popped in for the odd glimpse, but watch it in its entirety when H can sit down with me. No1 son hadn't seen the film, so I'm trying to keep my mouth shut about things to look out for.}
