{[caer csd] I hope it isn't a bonfire, Sol. I phoned the environment office down at the Borough Council to find that there are no bye-laws regarding bonfires.
The majority of our neighbours, occasionally H gets the urge to have one too, have them after dark. But someone had a huge bonfire on Tuesday, for most of the day when it was muggy with very little breeze. Not a day to have sit indoors with all the windows closed whilst wood smoke was hanging in the air outside
The Coucil will collect garden waste, they also run a chipping service, bulky items can be collected and the Council dump will take just about anything. So fires aren't really neccessary at all.
Men in Black II is on general release from today, here. Hoping to see it in the not too distant future.}

We went and saw MIB II last Friday. The critics in the newspapers slaughted it, saying it was without humour and that it went too fast! Our conclution after seeing the film was that the critics should have stayed in their old folks home and stop going out on their own...
We're having lovely weather these days. Yesterday we went to the beach, and I finally got to swim in the sea! It must have been 20C(68F)in the water! Right now (11 o'clock) it's almost 30C(89F) in the office and very humid...
There is this sort of people that _have_ to make bonfires everywhere, - used to live nextdoor to one myself. I prefer the compost method to get rid of garden-offal. Much better for the hedgehogs

[Munchkin] Ta for all the OS thoughts, I shall see what Honest Al's Software Emporium (or whatever they have in Woking) is doing on Saturday. I quite fancy 2000, as I've had good experiences (well not so bad) with NT based stuff.
Went and saw Austin Powers last night. What has he got against the Dutch? That said, I did enjoy it, although I feel they could have put some effort into the plot, it was mostly just a selection of movie references and elaborate set piece jokes. All very funny but not a plot in sight. The opening sequence is ace though.

Was there a plot in the first two? Is retreiving stolen mojo really a plot?
Bonfires and burning anything in a residential neighborhood is against the law here for environmental reasons, and composting is promoted in many places. I just bought a composting bin from the county at reduced cost.

Well, there is even less plot to this one, in my opinion. Still fun though, don't get me wrong.

oops, hit the wrong button there.
Munchers, good luck with the OS choice.
Fires are allowed here, but perhaps they ought not to be. It is vrey hazy of late and I am having trouble breathing some times.

sea, crystal cove. really lovely, and the waves are nice too....
i personally like the smell of campfires, although having them in close proximity to one's home is a bit, well, annoying. and if the wind shifts, unnerving.
okay, what do i want to make for dinner tonight? I just can't decide....

In warm weather like this (and with a possible thunderstorm hanging in the air) I prefer salads - try this entry:

Cook some noodles and drian and cool.
Mix up a vinegrette with balsamic vinigar and good olive oil
crush some cherry tomatos and some rasberries (if you have them) into the dressing
Add fresh or dried herbs as you have available
Mix and enjoy.

{[caer csd] I wouldn't mind if it was a campfire, but the smell of a bonfire is something else. The Environment Officer said that it would warrant air pollution if it was happening 3 or 4 days a week for most of the day. I don't mind them at night either, as long as its not every day, as we have them too after dark about once a quarter.
Although my latest round of hedge trimming and prunings is being gathered into a huge bag and when I've got enough I shall request the Nippy Chipper service from the Council. They will be reduced to bark chippings which, a year after sitting behind the shed gently rotting, will go on the flower beds as mulch.
No2 son saw Men in Black II this afternoon. He says its really good, very funny and almost better than the first one.}

Hey, all.
I extend my belated birthday wishes to Amy, and a for FG.
That asteroid is a load of nonsense, by the way. It's been confirmed that it'll pass by us at a distance of about 54 million kilometers. The earlier calculations were premature, and those combined with a number of measurements (size and so on) churned out a rather high value on the Palermo scale (measurement of danger to Earth or something), which got journalists up in a frenzy.
Of course, the news that it's /not/ going to miss us wasn't circulated quite as well as the bad news...
There are probably going to be a number of such predictions of total destruction over the next few years.
Operating systems... Well, I've stuck with Windoze 98 ever since it came out, as all future versions (apart from ME) are based on NT, which is notorious for hating games, graphics cards and that lot. However, I gather XP isn't so bad in that field.
Either way, I aim to get Linux soon (SuSE as it happens).

At last we can breath a sigh of relief about that issue. You know, I was staying up nights worrying about Chris still using Windows. I'm curious about Xandros Linux. Someday I'd like to get a whole bunch of computers and run all the linuxes (linii?) side by side, just to see the difference first hand. SuSE has a PowerPC version - maybe I'll put it on my laptop.
The temperature here just dropped from 91°F to 68°F in roughly 40 seconds, then climbed back up to 73° over the next half hour. Accompanied by intense rain, of course. It's an incredible and welcome change.

funny how the news reports are always soemthing bad. then, when it turns out that the big, bad thing might not happen at all, nary a peep.....
well, for dinner i decided to use the tofu/pesto ravioli i had made up earlier. i just boiled it, drained it, and tossed it with a can of chopped whole tomatoes. that and a loaf of bread, and a salad. quite nice, really. once the other half leaves for maryland again, i can start making the small person and i's kinds of dinners, instead of meat/ protein laden things. i personally like a nice salad with fruit.
marv, your salad sounds good!

{[caer csd] Dinner sounded good, MR. If you have time, read Under the Tuscan Sun by one of your fellow countrywomen, Frances Mayes. It's all about restoring an Italian villa with descriptions of wonderful meals and recipes.
My biggest concern re PCs at the moment is: am I going to have enough disk space for Icewind Dale II? It should be ok on ME, but gameplay is beginning to slow down and I suspect its time for another disk clean up and defrag.}
