I ate about half of them, but it is just far too hot to eat at the moment. And I say this sitting beside a three foot high fan. smiley - smiley

+31 C (88 F) in Copenhagen today, and around +35 C (95 F) in the train from Copenhagen to Stockholm this afternoon - turned out the ventilation had broken down and - it being a 'modern' train - none of the windows could be opened - not only warm but also stuffy...smiley - erm

Is it Mrs Sol now? And why is Hatifnat looking like a koala?smiley - huh

I'm back.

My cat's euthanasia went very quickly--I was surprised. The vet (my stepfather) came to my home ready to go with a needle full of solution. He told me what to expect. What vets use is a powerful anethestic that stops the heart instantly. He cut away some of the fur on her leg to obtain access to a vein, soothed her nerves, and administered the shot. She slumped over within a few seconds and was gone. We wrapped her up in her favorite fleece blanket with a few of her favorite catnip toys and buried her out on my mom's property in an aspen grove with a view of the mountains.

All in all, I'm glad I did what I did. Both she and I were so miserable in her final months. What I feel now is incredibly at peace with my decision.

I hope everyone else had a good weekend.

Better that she go calmly and not in pain.

FG, it was the right decision but of course that won't stop the tears.

I was going back to lurking here, but I wanted to post. I had the same decision to make in December with my own dear ginger tom that I rescued from a terrible life when he was a kitten. He then was never far from my side for 17 and a half years. The vet could have extended his life by a few weeks but it wouldn't have been any kind of life for him, so I knew what was the best thing to do. I took my daughter, Moonlight, with me and the whole thing was so peaceful, dignified and calm.

I'm glad it went well, FG. You are very lucky to have someone you know come to your home to handle the situation.

When my 21 year old cat had to be euthanized almost 2 years ago I had to bring her to the vet's office. I felt that the way they handled the necessary paper work was pretty insensitive. I had to write the check out in the occupied waiting room with tears running down my face after the procedure was over. smiley - cry

Yes, having pets put to sleep in the UK involves taking them to the vet's, you have to pay alot more for a house call. I have been fortunate in vets on the whole as I've always found them to be sympathetic. The worst bit is the embarrased silence from the other people waiting as you go back to the reception to pay up, tears streaming down your face.

Twice I've had to leave loved smiley - cats behind when we've been posted either overseas or home again. Each time my mother would say 'no more pets', but there always seemed to be a smiley - cat that desperately needed a home. Three years later would come the parting, but we always managed to them good homes. Often the new occupants would take them on.

A big group smiley - hug for everyone.

On a cheerier note Sadie is doing well on her liquidized diet.}

My heartfelt thanks to all of you. It is a painful thing to do and things were made so much easier by the vet coming over. It's nice to have family members in this line of work. Another cat died three years ago from diabetes in the vet's office. Having to don a cold, calm, impersonal public face while going through the ordeal was terrible. I wanted to rant, rave, and cry but I had to sign forms and talk to nurses.

Luckily I still have Lucy, my gray longhair mutt cat. Right now she's still looking for the other cat. But she's very lovey-dovey and is enjoying being the sole object of affection.

I nearly went ballistic when I found out what was involved in putting down a beloved pet here. You guys don't want to know. Sadly, it had much in common to the hassle involved (no, created) in cremating B's Grandmother. I'm glad that your and your cat's ordeal was as painless as possible, FG.
