They were partying in the streets here yesterday after the men won the gold in hockey. Lots of cheering and horn-honking, people with maple leaves painted on their faces, wearing team Canada shirts...everyone jubilant. Canada came out very well in the games - 4th overall in the medal counts: 6 gold, 3 silver, 8 bronze. But the crowning glory were the golds in both men's and women's hockey.
I watched the closing ceremonies and was very impressed. The synchronized fireworks were spectacular!

Utah has a facination with explosives. We have some very good fireworks displays for the state founding holiday. This was one of the most expensive ever held in the US from what I gather. The trouble is that most fireworks are illegal in Utah. We tend to smuggle them in from Wyoming on occaision.

I hate budgets!
I hated them when I was a controller in a hotel, bullying the dept. managers - no, I simply cannot accept a lower sales/worked hour compared to last year - increase the sales or cut down on worked hours!
Today the first thing my boss said to me was: New orders from the HQ - we need to adjust the budget - meeting now!
So I spent most of today, even w*rking late, assigned 7 hotels, whose budget I mercilessly haussed (sales) and cut down (expenses, worked hours, salaries)
It was (almost) OK pestering the dept. managers - I knew them pretty well after having w*rked in the same hotel for 8 years - but I certainly don't look forward to informing hotel managers - most of them complete strangers - of this new budget...
Hopefully our 'adjustments' will be enough - I just simply haven't got enough imagination for more hausses/cuts...

T, I am so sorry for you. It's always hard to make the bigwigs understand budgets!
Okay, the snow is icky, and it's nose-hair-freezing cold out there, but the sun is shining.
My mom sent us a really nice cookware set...Graf-o-rama, dear, you're going to be jealous!!!
Okay, all, need your help. UC Irvine is making me feel very welcome, but I am not sure that Catholic (U of America in Washington DC) is as excited. Should I go where they want me, or try for the "name" school? One is a PhD, the other only let me in for a masters. I am so confused and argh! I have to decide, and I don't want to!

Does the one with the masters course allow you onto the PhD on successful completion?
Do you want to be Dr MT Redhead (or MT Redhead PhD if you prefer) that badly?

MT, its a question of which course will give you the most interest and enjoyment. You'll be doing it for long enough, so you might as well have some fun. Not much help, but there you go.

Morning all. Talking about medical matters, I arrived at the Department of Physical Medicine one day early. The appointment is actually for tomorrow. Oh dear. I guess they think (quite accurately) they've got a right nutter on their books
Prof, whereabouts in Godzone is your uncle living?

Going from No1 son's experience,MT, go for the one with the nicest campus. He is very envious of Cardiff's, although his Uni does have a much better reputation for Creative Writing. Ok, perhaps that wasn't much help!
Just time for another glass of wine before bed.

I'm noting down this uni course info as well. I'll have to choose one soon.
(I'm applying to Oxford as well, just for the heck of it. )
I'm trying to find out where he lives exactly, Loony. I'll tell you once I know.

*Cheerily enters through the service lift*
Hello, everyone! It's been a wonderful day for me, IRL and VR.
IRL was great. Managed to finish off a few difficult computer programs that I'd been trying to work through, and it has started snowing hard! They're predicting at least a school delay tomorrow, if not a cancellation, though I refuse to get my hopes up. Also, I came home and found that a new *PROFESSIONAL LEVEL* saxophone came for me in the mail today! It's astounding, really.
VR, here's some okay news: you know that one site I keep pestering you with? http://www.grudge-match.com if you don't remember. Anyway, I went to check the results of their last match (The Tournament Of Losers: Calvin Vs. Braveheart Vs. The Bionic Man Vs. Xena Vs. The Incredible Hulk Vs. Lara Croft Vs. Bruce Lee Vs. John Wayne in a game of Rollerball) and I'd found two amazing things. First of all, the player I had my bets on won (Calvin). That was enough to make me really excited. But then I ran to check the viewer responses, and my response was listed as the "Response Of The Week: Bronze Medal" recipient! I'm finally a player in the field of Major Grudge-Match Readers(tm)!
Anyway, sorry for interupting the conversation flow, but I just had to tell someone.

Sporky, reduce the icon size to less-than-kindergarten, except for your photo/artwork folders. Make those HUGE with preview icons. You will soon appreciate the beauty of Aqua.
Welcome back G7, why are you looking for work? Congrats on the snow FG (now you will have to send some my way too), and on the pots MT - go for the school with the better reputation and that gives you the MA prior to the PhD (spoken as a grad-school-dropout who ended with neither) and really encourages their students. Congrats on the honor, Affy.
Don't blow off your fingers, Marv. Titania, we've got budget woes here too.
Two calling cards from Lil?! It must be very busy there.
Too much caffeine for d'E. Toaster oven in flames. Something stinks in the fridge.
